"(L/N)? I can't really-" He stopped himself in his tracks. "No, wait. It does sound familiar, I just can't quite remember exactly..."

"Oh." You worded with a hint of disappointment. You knew he was part of the Donquixote family. There literally wasn't another family with the same last name, but it was still disappointing knowing that he didn't really know the story.

Or it gives me the chance to teach him on a future date. Hell yes!

"It's fine. It's a story my mother used to tell-"

"(L/N)..." He repeated, still trying to figure out from where it was that he had heard the story and, whilst he was thinking, ignoring you completely.

You huffed to yourself, accommodating your body and straightening up in the bench to get a better look at the man behind you. He was staring straight ahead, eyes aloof and mouth moving ever so slightly, that special way it does when one is incredibly focused on a topic. He was still trying to remember why your last name seemed so familiar to him.

"The royal family!" He suddenly said, jolting in the seat and staring at you with shining star. "No way! I though it was nothing but a fairytale!"

"A fairytale?" You repeated confusedly. To you it was a simple political story with a small romantic twist in the end.

What part about two merging countries could pass as a fairytale?

"I don't really remember the story. In fact, I haven't really heard about it for such a long time."

"Do your parents not like to talk about it?" You asked curiously, unconsciously tilting your head to the side and managing to make Rosinante's heart beat faster.

"Uh-" He was out of words for a couple of seconds, trying to find the proper way of breaking the news to you without bumming you out and trying to figure out how in the world it was that you looked so darn cute. "They passed when I was young." He finally replied. "I haven't heard about this story ever since." He smiled softly, trying to, in a way, reassure you that he was fine talking about this topic and that shouldn't feel guilty for asking about it.

Too late.

Your eyes widened up in surprise, cursing yourself and your stupidly poor caution for what felt like the thousandth time in one single night.

"I'm so sorry." You said, looking into his eyes to see if he was trying to mask any emotions with that small smile.

"Don't worry about it, it's been years." He shrugged. Sensing you looking right into his eyes, he awkwardly shifted his gaze away from you, not wanting for you to unravel any hidden pain.

"Hey! If you want I can tell you all about it." You smiled excitedly. "My mother used to read it to me every single night."

You cringed at your words. Maybe mentioning your very much alive mother wasn't the best idea, considering he had just opened up to you about his parents' death, but what's done is done. You had once again fucked up and had nothing to do but to hope he didn't really mind your stupidity.

Looking up at him nervously to see his reaction to your words you were positively surprised. To your relief, he was smiling widely, previous conversation absolutely forgotten as his smitten-like mind was now filled with thoughts about your future date. He was already getting excited about actually learning more about you.

You giggled and looked back to the lake, noticing the darkness of the night fading away in softer and clearer colours.

The sun is already rising? How long have we been here for?

"The sun is rising." You announced.

"What?" Rosinante asked in disbelief. "What time is it?" He chuckled, proud to have stayed here with you for so long. It was already a significant step for him.

"Around six." You replied simply, a small and calm smile working its way to your lips.

Not having neither the energy or will to fight it back, you let yourself smile away. It would tell on you about being dumbly excited about having stayed out late with the policeman, but you didn't care at this point. You weren't going to play hard to get with Rosinante, if anything, you had been a tad too easy.

"Shall we go?" He said softly into your ear.

"Let's wait a couple of minutes." You mumbled, looking in adoration at the colours slowly change.

There was something about sunrises that made people feel more honest. A sunrise represents a new beginning, be it of a new hour, a new day, a new year, maybe even a new life. It gives hope, it ends with the darkness and coldness of the night, welcoming something bright and new.

This symbolism affected humans brains from a psychological point of view, and it was having an effect on both of you.

As you laid on the bench, basically cuddling each other as if you had been dating for years, both your hearts connected, almost magically. Even if you hadn't spent even a whole night together, there was a strange emotional and physical pull that made you want to spend more and more time with the mysterious blonde. This same logic worked its way to Rosinante's heart since the moment he realized about the strange coincidences in which you repeatedly met.

Rosinante allowed his face to hide inside your hair, warmth immediately invading his heart. Your scent numbed out all of his senses, making his mind solely focus on your company and intoxicating presence.

You leaned towards him softly, humming as your body melted against his.

"This place is amazing." You said, voice almost a whisper.

He chuckled, nodding against your hair and closing his eyes.

Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the adrenaline of a first date, or maybe it was neither, but he couldn't focus on anything other than how amazingly perfect your body felt against his. It simply matched.

"It really does feel perfect." He mumbled, referring to yourself and not the environment, but you had no way of knowing that. He simply needed to get it out of his chest and, since he didn't want to weird you out, he said it as nonchalantly as possible.

You giggled, nodding while still not tearing your eyes away from the show of colours above your head.

Now, your minds felt blank. Your and Rosinante's thoughts disappearing as the beautiful sky and its warm light invaded your souls, replacing them by the one and only introspection about how this would mark the beginning of what felt would be a beautiful and honest relationship.

Something meant to be.
