Eyes

25 1 1

You will meet many people
Of different tongues, colors, minds
Each carrying the glowing embers
Of the past
You can see in the reflections
Of their eyes
As sure as the wind
Rattles through their lungs

But I can assure you
Not all who carry that light
Bear a warm glow
There are some with pretenses
So well crafted
They may as well be the sun itself

Do not fall for those deep eyes
Vast as the ocean is wide
Swirling with the mystery you long for
Do not expose your deepest thoughts
To those who will twist your own words
Into a noose

They will tear you apart
With their eyes alone
Their different tongues
Could eradicate your flesh from bone
Their deception can turn you on your home.

They will try to extinguish
The embers glowing in your own eyes
Because there's were once robbed
Of any oxygen
Drowned in the dampness
Of their own sorrows
And if perhaps
You were robbed of your light long ago
But a troubled soul
Shriveled embers begging for relief
May you find grace
In other eyes

The ones overpowering
The brightest of stars
Put to shame for sharing the blame
For blemished skin
Torn by the darkness
They shine still

Their light is so bright
When your eyes meet you can feel
Your very breath catch in your chest

And if you're one of the lucky ones
You can feel the familiar spark
Oxygen fueling the fire
To put to a glow your embers
Once more
