The sun blinked out of sight
The sky beaconed night
With an artist's splash of stars
Like lightning bugs in jars
But the night can deceive
And it's then when I leave
Departing my body
To see where this takes me
But a bottle of liquor
Can't go any deeper
Because the night gets to me
Like no one can see
It masks my true face
I believe I'm the disgrace
They always told me I am
And I try and I plan
But the minds that always close
Can't let any in beyond their nose
So my shackles are weathered
And my wings are de feathered
Any hope for touching the sky
Quickly passed by
Because here I am bound
Six fewer under ground
I see no light
Because it's always night
