If you took a moment
To look and see
You'd find this shell
Is not the real me
Scratch open the surface
Dig out my bones
Unravel the darkness
That I never showed
On the inside
You'll soon discover
I'm no more
Than a broken lover
Look down some more
Past my mold
You'll find my soul
So weathered and old
A sea of distress
And nights spent in tears
Drowning in a sea
Of my deepest fears
I can feel your eyes
Bearing down on me
So I put up my walls
Just as it should be
And keep out the world
Or keep myself in
Under lock and key
Trapped inside my own skin
