We'd left late on the Tuesday evening for the airport after a beautiful week in Sardinia. I was so gutted to be leaving but I decided to spend all my time in the moment with Daniel until that things went back to normal on Thursday in the paddock.
He had planned a dinner on Wednesday night for me to meet his mom and dad. His sister and her kids were coming to the race on Sunday but they didn't arrive until Friday. I was full of nerves at the thought of meeting them. From what I could gather Daniel had already been pretty honest about how much I meant to him and how much he loved me. No pressure there then! Somehow that only made me more anxious so I tried not to think about it.
We'd had to fly to Vienna first and then we got a car to take us to the hotel near the red bull ring. I knew this weekend was going to be crazy as it's red bulls home race. I also new we were staying right near the tack so there wouldn't be a lot of wiggle room in the sneaking between rooms.
We were staying at Hotel Steirerschlössl, which I knew some other drivers had also been booked a suite at. Daniel had also booked his mom and dad there and we were all going to bunk up once the rest of the family arrived. As we had my entire room that wouldn't be used.
We finally arrived at the hotel at around 11.30am on Wednesday and got checked in. Daniel checked the arrangements for his mom and dad, they had arrived on Monday morning, and the reception said everything had been fine. Daniel had been texting them nonstop so he already new that.
I was dressed in some casual travelling clothes and he was in is own merchandise top to bottom. His curls were more like an Afro after all the travelling and I didn't look much better. I had no makeup on and looked like I'd had about an hours sleep all week. "Did you sleep at all last night?" Daniel asked taking my hand and leading me up the stairs. I pulled my hand away and looked at the receptionist. She just smiled.
"That's a lovely compliment thanks Daniel!" I had been snappy with him since last night. He just didn't understand that this effected me more than him. I could loose everything I worked for. What if I lost him because he wouldn't risk his career for the media backlash. I knew how these things so.
"I felt you tossing and turning. You pushed me away every-time I tried to cuddle you or comfort you in the car!"
"I must have been dreaming. I slept fine." I placed a fake smile on my face.
He stopped in front of a door and knocked. "What are you..." I was interrupted by the door opening and Daniels mom jumping through the doorway into his arms. Was he actually joking me. I was not ready to do this right now. I instantly felt like passing out.
"Lib this is my mom Grace," it took less than a second for her to wrap her arms around me.
"Yes we've heard so much about you! You're the lady that's finally taken my boys heart and soul then! Your just as beautiful as he said." Grace blurted at me, I was so embarrassed.... I was blushing and pulling at my skin.
Daniel took my hand and guided me into his arms. "Just wanted to see how you were before tonight." Daniel said.
"Gday," Daniels dad Joe reached out I thought to shake my hand but he pulled me into another hug.
"It's lovely to meet you both. I don't always look this terrible by the way. I didn't exactly expect to come to your room." I raised my eyebrows at Daniel.
"You look beautiful babe," Daniel squeezed me tight as we said our goodbyes to his parents and headed to our room.
"Asshole," I smiled at him.
"Theres that smile, I've been missing it. " He replied.
We spent the rest of the afternoon chilling, unpacking and getting ready for the meal. He'd booked a small local restaurant in the hopes we couldn't be spotted to much.
