Halley had spent the whole day locked in the bathroom with Demetri, she refused to leave the place and Demetri refused to leave her alone, so they just sat there accompanying the other. When the last bell rang they both waited until they knew the school was almost completely empty before making their way out.
Halley didn't have words to thank Demetri, he stuck to her because he knew she needed someone to distract her, he didn't ask questions, he just was himself, and that was enough. When they finally walked out of the school the girl felt as if she could finally breathe normally, the whole day there was a pressure in her chest that wouldn't leave her. Halley turned to look at Demetri with a soft smile on her lips before throwing her arms around him in a hug, the boys stiffened, not being very good with physical contact. After a few second of Demetri standing still in his best friend's embrace he finally reciprocated, he tried to not make it awkward, but, it's Demetri we're talking about, it's always a little awkward with him, but Halley was okay with that and she wouldn't change it for the world
"Thank you" she whispered with her eyes closed
"For what?" Demetri asked also with his eyes closed
"For being you" she simply said. And that's all she really needed to say, Demetri smiled even though she couldn't see him, she still knew
"I don't really know how to be anyone else" he shrugged as she finally let go of the hug
"That's fine. Just you it's perfect" Halley wouldn't want anyone else as a best friend than Demetri,he had something in him that just made him fit perfectly with her, it was a connection she knew wasn't found easily and she was very grateful she had "Do you want me to drive you home?"
"No, it's fine. My mom's here" he pointed to the car of the woman that was watching them from inside
"Alright then" Halley squeezed his shoulder "See you....tomorrow? I guess" she was doubtful about coming back to school the next day, she wasn't sure it was a good idea, considering she wasn't able to leave the bathroom the whole day

On her way home Halley realized that she hadn't heard from Sam all day, not a call or even a message which let her know that her cousin wasn't at school that day because she knew if she attended then she would have called to ask her where she was. She grew worried because if Halley had reacted so badly then maybe her cousin also struggled. Her worries settled a little when she saw Sam's black car parked outside her house.
Halley entered her house and went straight to her room knowing Sam most likely would be there, she was right. Sam was sitting on the edge of the bed looking at the floor and playing with her fingers. Upon hearing someone enter the room she looked up and sighed of relief when she saw it was Halley. She got up quickly and brought Halley in for a hug
"I'm so sorry I wasn't at school today" she said burying her face on her cousins shoulder, Halley reciprocated the hug almost immediately
"It's okay" she comforted
