The tensions had not gotten better between Eli and Demetri and it was taking a toll on Halley's friendship with Dem, not through fault of her own but because he would not drop the snappy attitude against either of them. Halley was kind of in between the fight because she'd already fix things with Eli and she could not understand for the life of her why Demetri was pissed at her
"Aright. Circle up" Daniel walked in stopping their stretching "The Sekai Taikai needs our final roster in three days. And now that we know who's going, it's time for us to name our male and female captains. The captains are not just the leaders of the team. They're the ones that will be fighting in the finals if we can make it that far" Daniel started explaining
"Plus, they get to fight on live TV. Who knows what comes after that?" Johnny followed "Wheaties boxes, chop-socky flicks, ZZ Top videos. Sky's the limit"
"You'll all get the glory if we win, but, yes, the captains will be in the spotlight. They need to represent the best that Miyagi-do has to offer" Halley really wanted that, seeing herself in the finals of that tournament would be incredible "And Sensei Lawrence and I want to assure you that the decision will be completely unbiased"
"That's right. In two days, Sam, Halley and Tory will face each other for the female captain spot, and Robby and Miguel will fight for male captain" Halley could almost bounce with excitement, she knew how good the other two girls were but she felt so ready to face them for the spot
"We all know you fought plenty of times before but now that we're on the same side, this is still the best way for us to see who's progressed the most" Daniel's calm voice finished and the contrast of Johnny's after had them all on their toes
"Alright, enough talking. Time to train!" he looked at the rest "You five, get inside. I'm gonna whip your butts into shape" he pointed at the ones running for captain, Halley immediately smiled, Johnny's lessons were always something special.
And something special it was, they never knew what was waiting for them when it came to Johnny Lawrence so before it even started they were all giving each other smirking stares
"Big circle" the calm ambiance surrounded them as they followed the Sensei's instructions "Big circle. Breath in. Breath out. Elbow to the face" the calm in the room didn't last long "Punch to the throat. Lift his ass up. And dump him" And that was just the beginning, he took them all outside and to the pond where once upon a time Halley, Sam and Robby had learned about synchronization with each other "They key to Miyagi-Do is balance. You gotta stay on your feet no matter what life throws at you" Jonny was throwing beer bottles at them, Miguel being the first one to suffer, he didn't have much fun. Neither did Halley who was next, she avoided a lot of the bottles but whatever lessons Daniel had given her before about balance were all suddenly forgotten, she felt herself close to falling in the water and she'd just washed her hair that morning so she somehow managed to jump off the platform and into the dry land
