Halley Larusso had the perfect life, amazing friends, loving family, good grades and money, what else could she ask for? Well, that's easy to answer:

Once the ten minutes were up, the excitement was palpable among the miyagi-do students as they watched the four competitors line up for the start of what would be decided if they got a spot among the best of the dojo that would be going to the Sekai Taikai. The cheers from the teams made the atmosphere even more intense as they watched Barnes lift his arm in the air and pulled it down at the same time he shouted
"Go!" he signaled the start of the challenge, the four competitors didn't waste a second and disappears into the woods. Halley believed in her boyfriend, she knew he was quick and his fighting skills were amazing, he wasn't All Valley champion for nothing.
When they no longer could see what was happening they all separated into small groups, Halley's eyes constantly checking the direction on when the four went just hoping to see the red, white and blue of her boyfriend's mohawk appear with a flag
"Who do you think will get the flags?" Sam asked, Halley took a second to think
"Devon is really good and Demetri's improvement is huge, but honestly I think Kenny and Eli have the upper hand here" Halley said honestly
"I was thinking the same. But maybe they'll give us a surprise today" Sam shrugged and the other brunette nodded
"Maybe"
Some time passed and they were all running out of things to do so they all mostly just stood around making bets with each other, Halley had just bet 20 dollars on Kenny and Eli with Chris and when they saw the teen coming back the first one of all, Halley could already smell her 20 dollar bill
"Holy shit. Hey, Kenny won!" Robby announced, they all started clapping for him but he rushed past them and the look on his face didn't look like someone who had just won, he fought with the portable bathroom's handle as someone was in there and Kenny look like he desperately needed to go in there, quickly they all realised what was going on
"Hey, open up. Open up, please!" he banged on the door "Please, I gotta...I gotta go. Please!" he begged "Please open up!" but they all heard it when it happened, the door didn't open and he didn't make it inside. Halley winced like many of the other there, the others were laughing, but no one louder than Anthony
"Shit" Halley mumbled
"Literally" Anthiny was quick to say, causing Halley to slap his arm, but she really tried to contain a small smile, she hadn't forgotten when the kid submerged her cousin's face in a toilet with shit inside. They hadn't finished whispering about Kenny when Devon made her way back
"Hey, guys. It's Devon. She won!" Sam was the one to spot her first and now the claps were for her as the girl jogged closer to them, the bright yellow flag in her hand
"Good job" Halley squeezed the girls shoulder and immediately felt a presence looming behind her and she knew quickly who it was, she immediately started digging in her pocket as she turned around "Damn it" she shook her head as she handed the 20 dollar bill to Chris "Don't get too comfortable with them, you might have to give it back" she still believed in Eli. It took a while before anyone else was back but Halley was keeping an eye on the woods when she saw her friend coming back "Dem?" the other immediately looked, he didn't have any flags visible and was walking slowly towards the clearing and once he stood in front of them, out of the pocket of his hoodie he pulled out a red flag, Halley's jaw dropped and so did the ones of many of the miyagi-dos, that didn't stop them from clapping for him
"I give you Miyagi-Do's Team Sekai Taikai" Sensei Barnes announced but Halley wasn't really focused on that, her eyes kept moving back to the woods looking for Eli "Halley" he called her forward but she wasn't fully listening, Sam having to nudge her for the brunette to move and join her friend and sensei. Halley gave a little smile at the cheers and walked in front of everyone "Miguel" the latino lifted his arms up to a high five with Demetri and Halley "Sam" her cousin also came up receiving a hug from her boyfriend and Halley "Robby" Halley fist bumped him as he walked past her "Tory. And now Devon" she gave a nod to both girls "And Demetri" Barnes and Daniell bowed to each other and then shook hands with Johnny "Good luck" the moment was over pretty quickly for Halley, she smiled politely to Demetri
"Well done, Dem" she said sincerely, she was mixed on how to feel, she was happy for Demetri but knew how much Eli wanted this too. She turned to look for her boyfriend in the woods, not having to do that as he was already coming back, face dirty and completely dejected which is why when she reached him, he received him with a hug "You okay?" was the first thing the thought of asking as fighting in the woods with no ref wasn't the safest thing
"Yeah" he mumbled into her hair
"I'm sorry" she squeezed her arms around his torso
"It's whatever" he shrugged but she knew it wasn't 'whatever' for him
"You deserved that spot" she leaned her head back to look him in the eyes
"So does Demetri"
"Never said he didn't. I'm just saying you do" she smiled up sweetly at him. Eli nodded and before any of them could say anything they heard someone clearing their throats besides them and when Halley turned to find Chris she gave him the most deadpan look she could muster, the other boy simply shrugged "Jesus" she broke the embrace with Eli to pull another 20 dollars from her pocket "Here you go" she handed it to him with a sigh
"Pleasure doing business with you, Miss, LaRusso" Chris walked away happily pocketing his bill
"And what was that about?" Eli asked stepping closer to her again to resume the embrace
"I lost 40 dollars today in bets, i don't wanna talk about it" she chuckled lowly
"You made a bet about me?"
"And Kenny" she nodded "Needless to say, I won't be doing it anymore because I apparently suck"
"Unbelievable" he shook his head, the smile back on his face left Halley satisfied knowing she managed to swipe his frown away
"I had a lot of faith, okay?" she leaned her head on his chest
"Thank you" he said sincerely
"Ice cream?" she asked leaning back with a small smile
"Hell yeah" they hadn't gone on an ice cream date in a while and she knew Eli needed the distraction and the sweet treat so it was the perfect occasion.
That day he managed to pay for her under the argument she'd already lost 20 dollars on him, not without her resisting a little but he was quicker at the moment of pulling the money out so she got a percentage of her money back in the end
