Halley hadn't given much thought about the fight with Eli, she was more so focused on the next session with sensei Barnes that would decide which one of them would go to the Sekai Taikai. Before class started her boyfriend kept his distance, standing with Miguel for most of the time and Halley didn't make an effort to approach him either. When the senseis walked in, all thoughts of her boyfriend were wiped off her brain. The new sensei instructed them to secure red pieces of fabric to their arms, legs and backs
"Top 12, get ready" Sensei Barnes told them as they all stood in two lines facing each other "Today's challenge is a battle royale. The rules are simple. Protect your flags. Steal the others. Lose your flags, and you're out. The ones with the most flags at the end go to barcelona. The rest of you will be judged on performance. You have two minutes" he got his chronometer up "Ready?" they all bowed and fell into their fighting stances "And fight!"
They were all quick to move from the deck, Halley knew she was good, but she also wasn't stupid going after the people she knew were slower than her was her strategy, that challenge was no about strength, it was about agility. Chris was her first victim, he was the one that charged first, Halley got out if the way quickly and turned, the red flag on his back showing perfectly for her, she ripped it quickly, even having the opportunity to take and extra one from his right arm. Then moved away from the scene leaving the boy to fight with another Mitch who had arrived too
Devon was the next one to attack her, she was unfocused, Halley had seen her several times looking back at their Senseis after every move she made. Halley considered her to be good, but she was pretty new and had a lot to learn still. There was more of a fight with her than with Chris as she was faster, and in one moment where the younger girl got close enough to reach behind her, Halley lost one of her flags, only to get two more because too focused on Halley's flag, Devon forgot to protect both on her arms.
Kenny was the next one, of him she'd seen little, but what she'd seen of him allowed him to know he was good, he had not been training for long but was already extremely talented, and she confirmed that when out of her fights, he'd been the one to put the biggest threat. There she lost one flag from her leg but managed to get another one off his arm.
She fought Tory briefly, getting another flag and before Tory could get one of hers, Sam joined the fight allowing Halley an easy way out, which she took. Mitch, Nathaniel and Demetri were also victims of her, ending with her getting four flags more and not losing any.
She them jumped to Sam, taking another flag for herself, not so easily, definitely the one person she took the most time with was her cousin, but she managed the fight, keeping her flags
"Time! That's it" The sensei shouted stopping every fight, Halley and Miguel finished were in the middle of theirs and she swore that with 10 seconds more she could've gotten a flag of his, or one of hers taken, she didn't know. Anyways she was satisfied with her results.
