Halley Larusso had the perfect life, amazing friends, loving family, good grades and money, what else could she ask for? Well, that's easy to answer:
Nothing

Standing in her bathroom watching all of the stuff her boyfriend had dumped in her sink was not what she was expecting when he came to her house that afternoon. There were scissors, dye of different colors, bleach and an electric razor and then he opened his mouth and started explaining what he wanted her to do with all the material
"That's not-" she sighed "Why?" she asked very confused staring at the excited face of her boyfriend
"We're competing outside the country"Eli said as if it was obvious "I gotta represent" Halley wanted to laugh, she really did but she knew the boy really wanted the US flag in his hair
"And you want me to do it?" she asked raising her eyebrows and pointing at herself
"Well, why else would I be asking you, then?" he sassed back, also pointing at the girl
"But I thought you didn't trust me with bleach and dye" Halley crossed her arms referencing to the last time they both stood together in that bathroom, that time it was Halley with green hair dye in her hands
"I don't, but you're my only option with this short notice" he shrugged. Halley's jaw fell open in joking indignation and poked his side, a smile threatening to escape them both "I'm kidding" he jumped back, his back hitting the door, Halley's hand getting close to poke him again "You're a great stylist, Hals" she dropped her hand to her side and then scanned the room
"My bathroom is gonna be more patriotic than your hair when we're finished"
"I'll help you clean"Eli smiled and stepped forward to embrace her "Is there any chance if i asked you to match with me, you'll accept" he squeezed her
"Nope" she answered immediately "You can still see the green when the sun hits my hair right, I'm leaving the hair dye to you"
"Thought so" When Eli went from green to blue Halley had decided to dye her hair back to her natural color, but the residues were still visible and Eli had been hearing her complain about the 'Muddy tone' it left under the sun, he knew the answer before he asked but if there was a slim chance, he didn't wanna miss it by not asking "Let's get to work, I think it will take us a while"
"You think?" Halley asked sarcastically mentally preparing for a long afternoon "Jesus" she shook her head with a small smile

Was it Halley's favorite look of his? Definitely not, but with the amount of effort she'd put into it, she couldn't hate it. It was definitely something but Eli was enjoying every second of it, specially as they walked into the dojo and went their separate ways, she could see him excitedly explain to some of the guys how his hair had end up like that
"And what exactly did your boyfriend do to his hair?" Sam approached Halley, amusement in her eyes
"He's feeling patriotic" she simply said
"I can see that" Sam laughed "How did that even happen?"
"I don't really know, which is funny considering I was the one that did it" she shrugged "I just kind of winged it to be honest"
"Hold on, you did it?" Sam's jaw almost hit the floor
"My bathroom did not appreciate that" she nodded as she remembered the state of the room the night before
"Maybe you should go on to be a hairdresser instead, that might be your true life mission"
"Doing stuff like that every day would be fun" she nodded, they both knew that was not gonna happen
"And you didn't think about matching him or..." Sam teased
"Hell no" Halley quickly shook her head "Green was fine, this might just be too much. Besides, one walking American flag is enough, arriving to Barcelona with two of us would make them think we're weirdos"
"You're very sure you two are gonna be of the seven chosen to go" Sam pointed out moving away from the topic of hair
"And you're not?" Halley raised her eyebrows, she and Eli were talking about it as she did his hair "I know at least us three" she added Sam "are gonna be there"
"Let's hope you're right"
"I will be" she didn't really know that, Halley knew she was good, but there were more than seven good fighters the senseis would have to pick from, of course there was that small doubt and insecurity in the back of her head, but she'd been working on quieting it since the announcement came out
♢♢♢
"The Sekai Taikai is coming!" Johnny's voice broke to the air, all the Miyagi-do's lined up for the senseis "It's up to us to pick our seven most badass fighters"
"And there are no easy decisions" Daniel's much more calmer voice followed "We know you all wanna go to Barcelona"
"Some of you think you're shoo-ins" Johnny spoke up again "That you're at the top of your game, that nothing or no one can stop you"
"And some of you think you're the underdogs, and you don't know if you have what it takes and, that you feel left out and left behind" Halley would never get used to the contrast between the voices of the two senseis, it always caught her off guard when they'd speak after each other
"But it's a level playing field. Anything can happen"
"Each and every one of you has a shot. So, as we make our evaluations, do your best"
"Now is not the time to puss out"
"Even though we're competing against each other, we are still one dojo. And it's time to bring out the best in all of us"
"So, which of you have what it takes to be in our top seven?"

Walking back to school felt so different to the last time they left, now as she walked inside with Sam, Miguel, Tory, Robby and Eli, everything felt lighter
"Alright, so y'all think there's any chance we don't make it in the top seven?" Miguel asked
"Maybe when hell freezes over" Tory scoffed
"Exactly my thought" Halley and Tory fistbumped
"Let's hope there's not a tournament category for humility"
"Oh, come on, we got three all valley champs and three runner ups"
"Realistically there's only one spot left up for grabs" Halley pointed out
"Sucks for everybody else" Tory shrugged

Hello, hello
So...I hate that freaking mohawk, I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to give that to him, it did give me another excuse to write Halley as a hairstylist so I'll take the win.
This one was a short one and kinda a filler, but next one will be good, see you then
