Chapter forty

"A glimmer of hope."

It had been about two days as Cassandra had brewed coffee as she walked to the living room where Beatrix's body was, she stopped in her tracks, seeing Damon standing there looking at her as he brushed his hand across her face "what are you doing here?" she asked him, as Damon turned looking at her "is she really dead?" he asked her "you snapped her neck, you tell me." Cassandra told him "I want to apologize." Damon told her, as he stepped toward's her "I don't want your apology. Neither mine or my mother's magic is working on her and we don't have a clue on what to do." Cassandra shared "please, I didn't know it was her, I would never kill her." Damon told her.

"But you did." Cassandra told him "I know. And I also know that I don't deserve you or Winifred's forgiveness, but...I need it." Damon told her "well, I'm not gonna give it to you, Damon and neither is my mother and I'm sure if Beatrix was alive she wouldn't either." Cassandra shared "true. I understand. I'm sorry." Damon told her, as he turned walking out of the house, Cassandra walked over to Beatrix, and moved her hand across her face like she had caught Damon doing.

Having had her coffee, Winifred soon came downstairs dressed for the day with Cassandra following behind her "and you're sure he's gonna help you out?" she asked her, as Winifred sighed "Cassandra, he helped me back in the day. I'm sure he'll be very happy to see me groveling again for his help like I did a long time ago." she shared, although as she headed to the door, she opened it, but as she did, Stefan was standing on the other side "this is an extreme surprise seeing as we want nothing to do with you." Cassandra shared "but seeing as your tap dancing outside our porch seeming to wonder if you should knock or ring the doorbell, I'm assuming this isn't done on a whim." Winifred shared.

"The other night when Damon was helping Tyler something happened." Stefan told them, as Winifred raised his brows "what? He killed him too?" she asked him "Tyler was starting to transform, and Damon was bitten." Stefan shared, and when he did, Winifred and Cassandra's eyes went wide "what?" they both asked, as Stefan stared at them "so, he's.." Cassandra said "yeah." Stefan told her, as Cassandra ran her hand through her hair "that's..that's why he was here this morning. He wasn't fighting me back, he was upset and wanted us to forgive him for what he did. And I told him that none of us not even Beatrix would want to give it to him, I just thought he was being an ass not dying!" she voiced.

"He told me not to tell any of you because he knew you wouldn't help and just be pissed at him like you've been. And I figured if either of you wanted to talk to him even just on behalf of Beatrix, you shouldn't wait." Stefan told them, as Winifred sighed "well, I am on my way to find Klaus so Cassandra will do it." she shared, as Stefan's eyes went wide "wait, you're going to find Klaus?" he asked her "yep and looking at how you've got your hero face on, if you're coming with me, we should go now." Winifred shared, stepping out the door.

Meanwhile, next door, Stefan had locked Damon in the basement, where the wolf bite was making him a little loopy as he began to recall moments from the past.

He saw himself in 1864, walking past Katherine's room and stopping to watch her through the crack as she sat at her vanity "Mr Salvatore." Katherine said, as Damon looked away "Mr Salvatore, spying on a lady is a sign of very poor manors." Katherine told him, standing up, as Damon walked in "my apologies, Miss Katherine." he told her "but since you are here..my corset strings seem to be knotted. I wonder if you can undo them." Katherine told him.
