Nut Up Or Shut Up

As I was merely five feet from my car, my name sounded through the air. I whipped around to face a very disheveled Mike in only his boxers. I couldn't help but chuckle and walk up to him.

"Sorry, I was still sleeping." He smiled awkwardly and let me in. I eyed him up and down and he held up a single finger before running upstairs. He was back quickly; now clad in some basketball shorts.

"So what's up?" he asked as we sat down on the couch. I wanted to be blunt but I could feel myself getting ready to ramble on. I looked down at the ground as the cons threw themselves at me. the first one being a visual of my father leaving my mom and I all alone when I was little and seeing the look of pure confusion and rejection on her beautiful face.

"I wanted to talk about last night..." the festering words that clung to the back of my throat burned like a good whiskey and I had to bite my tongue before they spilt out like word vomit.

"Okay... what about last night?" he said quietly and didn't look at me, just his twiddling thumbs.

"I know you felt it too." I mumbled and his head snapped to attention with the tiniest bit of a smile tweaking his lips.

"I know what we have is real and I'm sorry that after everyone's input and opinions towards whatever we are, it has taken me this long to realize it and just after such a tragic thing. I don't know how to say it and I'm afraid to say it but I think and hope you know where I'm going with this and I really should shut up but I need to-" he cut me off by connecting his lips to mine in fiery passion.

"I know what you are trying to say but I want to hear it. I feel it too." He said with his eyes still closed and his hands still lightly grasping my face, caressing it with his thumbs.

"I, I like you a lot, Mike." He finally opened his eyes and they just sparkled like gorgeous gemstones.

"I like you a lot too, Jayme." He gave me one chaster kiss before pulling me onto his lap.

We stayed like that for what seemed like an eternity before either of us made a sound.

"So, is this the start if us?" he asked quietly with hope burning through his chocolate brown eyes.

"Yes." I said with a smile. He looked apprehensive as he tried to speak but every time he opened his mouth, words never came.

"Jayme Brooks, will you be my girlfriend?" he hesitated with the simple but meaningful question.

"As long as you'll be my boyfriend, of course!" we both smiled widely and snuggled for a little while longer; sharing kisses and hugs along the way.

"I have to go. I have work in the morning." I sighed and struggled to pull myself away from his warming embrace.

"Okay, I'll either call you or text you or see you tomorrow." He chuckled and walked me to my car.

"I like you, Michael Fuentes." I smiled as he opened my car door.

"And I like you too, Jayme Brooks." He said before leaning into one final kiss goodbye. I held onto him for a few minutes longer before stepping into my car and driving back home.

I had finally let the past go and I was hoping it wouldn't come back to bite me in the ass. I was glad we were finally on the same page, same book even; it put my heart at ease but didn't stop my forever racing mind from bringing up cruel things ever so often.

I arrived home and went straight for my bed. I grabbed my phone and went to my group text that contained Ricky, Chris, Myself and Devin. I was closest to them and talked the most to them so
I was glad to share my news as they would be excited to hear that I 'grew a pair'

I sent the text and plugged my dying phone onto its charger before falling asleep, a well-deserved but lonely sleep.
