Two days. I had two whole days left until Mike went on the road. Today was the first day I would be going back to work since I was sick. I hated being stuck in bed and telling people not to come over, especially Mike, just because I didn't want to get them sick. I felt so much better now though. I couldn't for the life of me tell you why I was sick but I was more than happy that it was over with.
I had already showered and got dressed for work very early and was just sitting in my backyard reading the paper with my coffee in hand when I heard my door opened and shut and a few sets of footsteps go through my house.
"Jayme! Oh, Jayyymeeee!" someone hollered and I chuckled slightly to myself.
"Out here!" I yelled back and continued reading the morning paper. I glanced over at the open back door to see a slew of black skinnies walk out and I knew who was here to see me. I really knew when Chris called my name from the house.
"How ya feelin'?" Ricky asked as I set my paper down.
"Much better. I still feel a little congested and my throat is still a little sore but so much better." I smiled and he nodded.
"That's good! So, how are you and Mike? I know he leaves in a few days.." Chris said as he beat around the bush.
"We're good and I'm happy he's going to do what he loves but I'm still nervous, you know? I just have the eerie feeling that something bad is going to happen while he's away." I sighed and checked my watch to see how much time I had to bullshit before work. I had roughly an hour and a half.
"Nothing's gonna happen. You have him wrapped around your pretty little finger. He wouldn't dare do something to hurt you." I rolled my eyes at the Ryan's sarcasm and he chuckled.
"It's true, Jay. You have him by the balls." Devin chuckled and ripped a little corner off of the newspaper to throw at him.
"Yeah, yeah. He loves me I get that but you all know how he is when he gets obliterated. I just don't want to get that call late at night saying he made a mistake and didn't mean it. I wouldn't be able to handle something like that." I frowned a little and glance quickly at Josh to see him with a frown adorned on his face too.
"It'll be fine. You're just nervous about what could happen that will most likely not happen. Live in the now and stop thinking about the future. It's not good for you." Ricky said with a light chuckle.
"Yeah, I know. It's just though to always stay positive when I know he's gonna be gone for so long and not know what he's doing, as psycho clingy white bitch as that sounds." I chuckled and sipped my cold coffee. I had yet to hear Chris say anything but I knew I would get that talk sooner or later. He was just sitting there with a smug smile because he knew that I knew what he would say.
"Well, we have to go finish a few thing regarding the album and whatnot. Want to hang after work?" Chris said as he got up and cracked his knuckles.
"Yeah, sure. I get out around four today but I'm gonna go see Mike for an hour or two so see you around six?"
"We'll probably be here before you anyways." Ryan laughed.
"Yeah, we're always here before you." Devin added and laughed along with the others.
"Get the hell out. I'll see you guys later." I laughed and figured I would leave early today so maybe I could leave a little earlier than four today. I said goodbye and slapped Ricky as he pinched my ass as he walked by. I grabbed my keys and everything I needed and headed out right behind them.
"Have a good day at work, Jay!" Ricky yelled from the passenger side window with a wink and I flipped him off with a big smile on my face. They left and I got into my car and drove to work.
I greeted my coworkers and busied myself with paperwork. Throughout the day I kept the smile on my face until I couldn't feel my cheeks. I didn't want anyone worrying about how I felt about Mike leaving in less than two days. It's not like I could stop him or go with him anyways. I just have to deal with it.
I was getting ready to do out for lunch when Dave called me back out to the front saying someone was here for me. I got excited thinking it was Mike but I was let down to see it was just Chris. I loved to spend time with Chris but I really hoped Mike would have tried to spend some time with me before he left.
"Hey, I figured I could take you out to lunch before my appointment." I looked down at the books and saw his name scrawled in Dave's chicken scratch writing.
"Yeah, let's go." I smiled slightly and followed him out to his car. We drove to the deli by the park and ordered an Italian grinder to split and walked over to a picnic table to eat.
I pulled out my pineapple Fanta bottle and thinking that it was a twist of cap, I tried so hard to open it until Chris snatched the bottle away and took out his keys that had a bottle opener on it.
"Thanks." I mumbled and took a sip. We ate in silence before I glanced up to see Chris staring at me, Coca Cola in his hand as if he was thinking hard about something.
"Go ahead, say it." I sighed and took a bite of the delicious sub.
"Stop thinking about the past." He stated simply and I gave him a confused look.
"Just because Mike fucked you over in the past doesn't mean something is going to happen while he's gone. Stop thinking about what has happened in the past and move on from it." he clarified with a shrug of his shoulders.
"I know I need to move on but you don't understand the way my mind works. I'm just scared, not necessarily because of what has happened before but what could happen. I'm sure everything will be fine but you never know." I shrugged and sipped my soda, not looking at him because I know he would have that dumbfounded face.
"I totally get that but you just have to go day by day and if he does something wrong then you can slap me and everyone else who told you nothing would happen across the face as hard as you can." He chuckled and took a bite of his half of the sandwich.
I quickly changed the topic to his music because I didn't want to keep talking about Mike leaving; it made it too surreal.
We sat for another forty five minutes or so before driving back to the shop. He and Dave went back to start their session while I sat up front finish paperwork that I had started before lunch.
I said goodbye to Chris as I left because he was still sitting in the chair taking a quick break from tattooing. I took a quick glance at what he was getting done and I liked it. It was mostly outline right now though but it was definitely cool looking.
