Denial
Mary Jane, hair perfectly up in a pony tail, walked down her stairs with her perfectly pink pajamas on, her pearly white bathrobe on top of them. Having set her velvet slept mask on the perfectly neat night stand by her pristinely made bed."Oh father!" She called down with her angelic voice. "Good morning father, how has your morning been." The sun was out the birds were chirping, it was indeed a good day.
"Well good morning to you my lovely Mary Jane. It has been, well a little stressful. Just working hard on my reports for work." He beamed at her.
"Working hard or hardly working." She put her hands her hips
*laughter could be heard from an unknown place but Mary Jane and father didn't acknowledge it.*
Father raised his eyebrows. Mary was pleased with her joke.
"Now Mary I do work hard, when I have a reason too."
*laughter could be heard from an unknown place*
"Now less talk about me, what are your plans for this wonderful Saturday my dear?" He beamed up at her. Mary's heart was filled with such joy. Her father loved her, her father was part of her life. He was there.
"Well now this boy from school." She paused
*ooooos could be heard from an unknown place*
"He asked if he could take me to the diner tonight. Promised he'd buy me a coke." She said coming to sit next to her father. He lowered his glasses to get a good look at her.
*laughter could be heard from an unknown place*
"A coke you say? Back in my day coke meant a completely different thing, not a sugary soda."
*laughter could be heard from an unknown place*
"Oh he doesn't mean me any harm, father." She huffed. "He's a real nice boy, I think you'd like him."
"Yeah well," father picked up a gun from behind the couch and cocked it.
*laughter could be heard from an unknown place*
"He better be." Father finished
"Oh father your so silly. There's no need for that death stick now!" She said gasping at the sight of it. "Please be nice, I really like him." She gave him puppy dog eyes.
"Ohhh come here than." Father said hugging his dear Mary Jane.
*Awwws could be heard from an unknown place*
"I promise I'll be good." He said. She hugged tighter.
"Oh thank you father." She said. He reveals that he had his fingers crossed behind her back.
*laughter can be heard from an unknown place*
"Well what time is he picking you up?" Father said releasing the hug.
"6:30. He promised he'd wash his white convertible for me. Making it all nice and pretty."
"Well, best if I leave you to get ready then. I still have my report to finish." He blows her a kiss and she catches it as she makes her way back up stairs.
The scene changes. Father is still in the living room but pacing back and fourth now. The clock shows its 6:25.
*laughter can be heard coming from and unknown place*
