"Morning Dad." Mary Jane said walking down her stairs. Dad was sitting on the couch, news paper in hand, not looking up to greet her.

"Well, considering its past noon, I think good afternoon Dad would be the more appropriate statement."

*laughter can be heard coming from an unknown place but Mary Jane and Dad do not acknowledge it*

"So anyway, how late did you and Peter stay out last night?" Dad said flipping the page of his news paper. Mary Jane came to sit on the couch with him.

"Well, the sun wasn't up yet so I'd say before 6 am." Mary Jane said rubbing her eyes.

"What did you two do?" He asked finally putting down his news paper. "You two seem really close now."

"Well we went to the Maple Twine Park recreation center. They were having a live band play outside and we just sat in the grass and talked. Of course we're close! We are going steady, ya know." She said smiling and shaking her head at him.

"Okay... you hear Stacy Foster's  leaving for vacation today." Dad said looking uncomfortable with the previous subject.

"Oh is she? Well I do hope no one gets sick then, she is the town doctors after all." Just as she said that, Mary Jane sneezed.

"You okay Mary?" Dad said putting his hand on shoulder.

"Oh I'm sure it's fine, probably a little cold. It rained on Peter and I last night." She said standing up. "Well anyway Dad if you not doing anything to night, I thought I'd stay in and maybe we can make dinner together?"

"Well that sounds lovely! Perfect timing too, I have no extra work I need to do tonight." Dad replied. Mary's heart swelled. They were making dinner together; as a family.

"Groovy! I'll go upstairs and get dressed than" she said hopping up the stairs.

The scene changes. Dad is in the kitchen cutting up tomatoes. Mary Jane walks in with a bandanna on her head and a 'flower power' shirt on.

"Does spaghetti sound good? Here go dice up some garlic. Garlic bread and spaghetti sure sounds like a great combination tonight don't you think?" Dad said watching where his fingers were as he was cutting the tomatoes.

Mary sneezed. "Achoo!"

"What did you say honey?" Dad says now looking up. Mary Janes eyes got wide and came up with an excuse.

"Uhh I said thank you!"making it sound like her sneeze, "thank you for coming up with this nifty dinner." She smiled innocently

"Right..." he eyed her suspiciously, putting the tomatoes in a pan. Mary quickly walked over to the other side of the kitchen starting to cut up garlic. She coughed. Her eyes went wide again.

"Did you hear something?" Dad said looking behind at her.

"Must have been the neighbors dog!" She said sheepishly grinning.
