For the next several months Mary came to realize nothing would be the same. Some for the good. Brad has been extremely nice to her. Her final class of the day she knew no one but Brad, so they became friends. Much to Peter's dismay, but he never said anything about it. He didn't want to seem like he was controlling Mj. He didn't want to be that person.
However Peter had been hurting Mary's feelings. She'd invite him to do stuff with her, even asked him to come just sleep at her house after patrol- but he was always patrolling or doing a banquet to raise money to help people displaced from the blip. He just hadn't really had time for her or his friends.
Of course Mary was proud of him, he was helping a lot of people everyday. But it worried her, she saw too much of her father in Peter. Spending sleepless nights doing things to help others. Peter was sick.
He struggles to keep his eyes open in class and it's gotten to the point were Peter just gives Mary his back pack so she can do his homework for him. As disappointed as Mary was that Peter wasn't hanging out with her, Ned and Michelle, she was really worried.
"Pete you should come over tonight. A group of us are going to go to some fancy restaurant to celebrate thanksgiving. Like Friendsgiving I guess." Mary said. She was on the phone with Peter while he was swinging across the rooftops looking for trouble.
"I- can't tonight. Crime typically spikes on weekdays."Peter said grunting, out of breath from swinging.
"You can't take just a few hours off?" Mary said sounding disappointed.
"No im sorry. I got this lead for a bank robbery happening tonight. I can't miss it I'm sorry." Peter said now standing on a roof to talk to her more clearly.
"O-oh okay. Uh well go get em tiger." Mary said trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Mj I really am sorry. This was just really bad timing. But I'm sure you'll have fun with Michelle and Ned!" He said trying to cheer her up.
"Brad and Betty are going too." Mary said quietly. "That's why we wanted you to come as well. So we all had someone to talk too. But I think Betty invited flash too, hopefully he doesn't show up but he'll be nice as long as Michelle's around. I think he's scared of her." Mary giggled lightly.
"B-brads going?" Peter said pulling off his mask to hear his phone more clearly.
"Yeah! He actually been really nice to all of us. You'd know this if you weren't half asleep in class." Mary giggled trying to make light of it all.
"Ooh yeah. How bout this!" Peter said thinking on his toes. "Uh tomorrow maybe we can do something, during the day. May doesn't have any banquets or anything."
"Peter..."
"What? Does tomorrow not work? How bout friday?"
"Peter tomorrow's thanksgiving. Remember we are supposed to go to Pepper's in the morning and have lunch there so we can spend the evening with May. Did you forget?" She forced her self to laugh a little.
"Ahh shit" he whispered under his breath, "uh no! Nope I remembered. I just forgot tomorrow is Thursday." He said cringing and kicking himself mentally.
"You're still going to go right?" Mary said. She didn't want Peter to know she was upset, so she tried to sound cheery.
"Yeah yeah definitely. Uh I might just sleep on the car ride there." Peter said sheepishly.
"T-that's fine. Uh listen I gotta go... Michelle is coming over to help me with my dress. I'll see you tomorrow Pete." Mary said quietly.
"Yes! I will definitely see you tomorrow. Go have fun! I-I love you." Peter could tell Mary was a little upset.
