Harry's POV

It had been a month since Hermione had been petrified. Ron and I did miss her but not as much as Y/N. He had become very cold and distant he would not talk to anyone he would take food from the table and disappear almost as soon as he had appeared. He even stopped insulting Lockhart much to our dismay. Anytime we did see him he had bags under his eyes, or he had his head in a mountain of books, everyone was concerned for him even the teachers. Dumbledore had even asked Ron and I about his behaviour and stated that he himself was personally worried. We had tried to cheer him up, but he would simply get up and walk away no one had seen him smile or laugh for the last month he had completely changed. It reminded me of the time Quirrell, Y/N and I were in front of the mirror and the look he gave Quirrell was bone chilling, and his current self was giving off that same aura.

Y/N's POV

I had not said anything to anyone for the last month I was too busy trying to find out what could have caused Hermione's petrification to care about anything else. I did not really eat nor sleep anymore. I missed Hermione more than I ever thought possible. I went to transfiguration and did not really pay attention to the class I made sure to be by myself as I wanted to be near no one. As the class came to an end, I left quickly to head to the hospital wing to see Hermione. I arrived to see Madam Pomfrey tending to the others. She had reluctantly let me visit when I wanted due to the first time I tried and after a lot of arguing she let me. I sat next to Hermione as I did my schoolwork and changed the flowers at her bedside table. It was something I had been doing the last month it was the only place where I felt slightly better knowing that she was here and soon she would be back with us. After I finished my schoolwork, I left to head for the library again to try and find something on what could have caused this. As I left, I heard a pair of voices.

"Y/N?" I turned to see Professors McGonagall and Dumbledore.

"What are you doing wandering the corridors by yourself? it's not safe." McGonagall said.

I just looked at them coldly not wanting to talk to them.

"Y/N walk with us please." Dumbledore said as he led me out into the grounds with Professor McGonagall.

"Y/N we are all genuinely concerned about you. Harry has told me you are not eating or sleeping." Dumbledore said calmly.

"Y/N we know you care for Ms. Granger but killing yourself by not eating or sleeping is not going to help her in any way." McGonagall said.

I looked at them both with no emotion on my face as they kept talking.

"I promised I would protect her, and I failed." I said this caused McGonagall to be startled as I had not spoken in a month.

"I feel like she is going to hate me when she wakes up because I could not keep my promise to her." I said sadly.

"Y/N I very much doubt Ms. Granger will hate you, you could not of know it was going to happen even if you did use your legilimency to try and find out what was happening it's not your fault." McGonagall said as she placed a hand on my shoulder.

"I guess every teacher knows about me being a legilimens then." I asked Dumbledore.

"No just myself, Professor Snape and Professor McGonagall Y/N." he replied.

"I am also very doubtful Ms. Granger will hate you if she cares for you the same as you do for her then it will not be an issue." Dumbledore said.

I stood there a moment thinking on what the Professors had just told me and for the first time in a month a small smile graced my mouth.

"Thank you Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall I feel a little better" I said.

"Know this are offices are always open you don't need to manage everything yourself Y/N." Dumbledore said with a smile and his eyes twinkling form behind his glasses.
