Sitting by the fireplace quietly while Eliz was handing each one of them a letter.
"When Ivor visited us last time, he left these behind and we read ours so the ones left where written for Ezra and prince Louis"
She said while sitting down next to Mark facing their son and the young prince.
Louis's letter came with a huge envelope that was pretty heavy, yet it was only papers.
He put it aside, quietly unwrapped his letter, held tightly into that piece of paper and started reading.
And for some reasons he could feel that it was written by Ivor. In his study. By nighttime. In yet another sleepless and lonely night inside of his cage.
"To the king's advisor, prince Louis Kalos-"
Louis felt a little hesitant as if he could hear those words and something tightening around his chest.
"-I would like to leave all of these private papers about out kingdom in your hands, you will feel overwhelmed as this might not be the easiest position to be in. You will have to carry this kingdom on top of your shoulders every second and for the rest of your life. But I hope you never forget that you are not alone. Reach out to your beloved ones when in need and take a rest when you have to, otherwise you might not serve this kingdom as you should if not in your best health. Walk proudly, not as anyone's son but as yourself and stay as kind as you are. Until we meet again. Ivor"
The letter felt a warm drop of salty liquid falling on it, followed by another one, as his hand tightened on that piece of paper while slowly letting those low cries out but immediately covering his mouth with his hand, trying hard to contain himself and not cause a scene.
But when he looked up, he realised that he was not alone, all the eyes around him were tearing up for the loss of the man he respects.
After a few minutes, Louis wiped off his tears and got up walking towards the parents.
"I have to leave now, it was a pleasure meeting you"
Louis smiled slightly while they both got up to greet and thank him for stopping by.
Ezra was still sitting down, did not say a thing nor open his letter, he was too scared to do anything.
The prince was reminded by Elmer's words.
He made sure to think of all the possibilities that might come out of their little mission.
"If Ezra is feeling hesitant, let him stay"
Elmer said to Louis who was standing beside him in the empty throne room.
"What? no we can not let him stay, we need every knight we can trust!"
Louis lost his calm while replying.
But Elmer remained the same, he thought for a second before ending the discussion.
"A grieving knight must take time to accept, am I right?"
He was suddenly reminded by those words and immediately realised that he would be leaving without Ezra.
Eliz and Marc were seeing Louis by the door where he said his final goodbye and none of them brought up Ezra since he did not seem to want to talk or move.
The royal carriage made its way through the snow heading back to Kardia's royal palace.
Carrying a prince that had some endless thoughts in mind.
'The coronation will be in four days, I must make sure nothing goes wrong'
Louis thought to himself.
Only if he knew that some of the Lords have already arrived to the palace where they would be staying until the coronation.
Inside the new study, Elmer and Elina were still catching up.
He was on his desk reviewing some papers while she was walking around and talking.
"-And I can not wait to see her again, I feel like we are friends now, I mean we were friends when she lived in our mansion for a while and Marion talks a lot about her so I miss her too, do you feel me?"
Elina said, walking towards the desk.
Since it was new, most drawers that she opened were empty, except for the last one.
"Oh My! What is this?"
Elina said while carrying that small jewelry box.
"Wait Elina!"
Before Elmer could stop her, she went ahead and opened the box.
Wide eyes, hand on her mouth as she stood in shock.
"You are proposing! Oh my god, THIS IS SO CUTE!, When did you buy the ring? why the purple gem and when are you proposing?"
She showered him in question and since he was going to ask for her opinion anyways, he had to give her some answers.
"I bought it a few months ago"
Elmer replied.
"That's why we went broke suddenly? You bought a ring"
Hawk's voice surprised the both on them while he walked in from the balcony.
"Don't worry, the guards saw me, they let me in and I took a shortcut"
He then replied.
Elmer had a lot of concerns but he decided to put everything aside, because if Hawk was there, his lover would not be too far.
He rushed towards Elina and took the box bach while asking,
"What do you think? do you like it?"
"I think it's pretty but it is up to Ida to decide"
Elina replied.
"Does she like purple, it looks pretty old, I would have gone for a brighter color"
Hawk said while reaching those two and taking a closer look at the ring.
"Should I get another one?"
Elmer was seriously concerned about the life choices he had made so far.
The two looked at him before bursting into laughter which made him look more confused.
"I was just teasing you"
Hawk said while hitting Elmer's back a couple of times gently.
"The ring is perfect, it will be fine"
Elina then added.
Hawk walked back towards the balcony where he spotted the person his eyes longed for,
Larica was able to notice him even though he was in the second floor, which made him smile and wave at her.
"Oh, by the way they are coming in, your Ida too"
Hawk said without taking his eyes off Larica.
"Alright, I will go now"
Elmer said while taking a deep breath in.
"Pray for me"
He said before leaving the room without looking back.
"Isn't he supposed to ask 'How do I look?' or something?"
Elina said.
"I guess he is confident he looks his best all the time which is sadly true"
Hawk replied.
While the two of them walked towards the door leaving to find their people while quietly praying for Elmer to have the best of luck...
