It took two years until the war ended. Steve continued his duty as a commander, leading the army at the border. While many of the soldiers from the other country tried to infiltrate, the stronghold remained strong.

Still, while the king demanded some kind of retaliation, Steve believed there was a chance for a diplomatic solution. It took some convincing, but after arguing that this was the least violent path for both countries, as well as an opportunity for economic deals, the king agreed.

After months of negotiations, a deal was settled. One country would send their food, while the other would trade supplies such as metal and iron. And thus, the war was finally over after two and a half years.

With the rest of the knights, Steve rides back to the capital on his horse. People are cheering for the heroes. Instead of being cheered for conquest, they are cheered for peace.

As flowers are thrown towards them while they ride, Steve looks around. He hopes to see Y/N standing somewhere among the crowds. As he and his group ride through the streets, he manages to spot Y/N at the plaza.

The man smiles widely as he holds his flowers—roses. He nods to Steve and gestures towards the flowers. Steve smiles back. These are his flowers, specifically for him.

It feels good to finally be back, living the life he used to know.

Three months have passed since coming back, and Steve finally eloped with Y/N. It was a grand wedding, thanks to Steve's general status. Pure white flowers were everywhere, while soft songs played in the background. Bucky couldn't be happier for his friend.

Arriving at their new home, the married couple smiles at their mansion. Steve happily smiles at the results of all his hard work and patience. It was pretty big, but not quite big enough to be considered a noble's mansion.

With extra bedrooms available, as well as a training room and a study room, it appears that the future looks bright.

"I can't believe this is happening..." Steve mutters, quickly looking at the kitchen with a smile. "I could already imagine myself cooking here. Boar soup, roasted fish, anything we want."

Y/N smiles and looks out of the window. Staring outside, he can tell that the mansion is in the upper city. Besides the houses and buildings down below, past them lies the thick and peaceful forest.

"Never did I imagine living here." Y/N admits, but smiles.

He turns around, looking at his wedded husband. "You're going back to your usual knight duties?"

"Patrolling, teaching the new recruits, giving advice, and so much more." Steve smiles as he leans against the counter. "I got promoted to be a strategist, as well as a negotiator. For any future war, I intend to make a peace deal. And if that doesn't work, then we drive them into a corner. So, if by any chance another war breaks out, I don't plan to join the front lines."

Y/N hums. "That's good to hear. Hopefully, they can afford such a great knight."

"No need to worry. Bucky is more than ready to fight in my stead, and he's worthy of doing that." He smiles as he looks around the house. "Now, all we can do is pray for peaceful times and live our best lives, now as husbands."

Y/N smiles back. He's right. They should focus on peaceful times and continue their lives there. After all, time could be limited, but they don't intend to let that stop them.
