Tobin POV

"No I get that, I just don't understand why we need all these people here in suits and dresses just for an album! We would've been fine with just hanging out in the basement!" I threw my hands up but then laughed at myself. But I still didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Yeah, we were releasing a new album, but Cindy had us dressed up with these grey suit jackets and these blue ties, it was all too much in my opinion.
"Tobin, I just want the best for you." Cindy put a hand on my shoulder and smiled. I returned it.
"Yeah, I know, thanks for caring so much Cindy." I nodded and she pulled me into an unexpected hug. I was caught off guard, giving confused glanced to my friends, but I returned it. I smiled and looked out the all the people. When I did this, I was met with a piercing pair of ocean blue eyes. My mouth dropped and I saw a smile creep across her face.
"Uh, 'scuse me." I said. I walked across the room, never breaking eye contact. I smiled back at her.
I laughed, "Um, not that I don't like the surprise, but what are you doing here?" I held my hands out in confusion. She smiled and took them in hers.
"Well a little squirrel invited me." I turned and glanced at Kelley who's cheeks were stretched out due to the many cookies she was eating at once. She saw us look at her and waved and smiled. We both laughed and I turned back to her.
"Tobin! So nice to see you, who's this?" A man with glasses and a short grey beard walked up to me.
"Oh hi Mr. Banks." I shook his hand. Mr. Banks was our biggest sponsor.
"Oh this is my girl-" I was cut off by an elbow to my ribcage.
"This is my friend Alex." I looked back at her with a 'What the hell was that for?' Look.
"Nice to meet you Alex." They shook hands and then Mr. Banks was pulled away by someone.
"So, why the elbow to my gut?" I asked with a cough.
"Because I'm not your girlfriend." She smiled. I gave her a look.
"Oh yeah, I've gotta show you how much I love you right?" I put my arms around her waist.
"Maybe not in public." She giggled and wiggled away. I watched as she walked away, then felt a hand in my shoulder.
"Gofd lufk dud." It was Kelley with her mouthful of cookies. When she talked a few crumbs flew out over her mouth and landed on my shoulder. I wiped them off as I looked at her.
"Yeah, and thanks for the snack." I laughed and walked away.
I walked around making small talk with all the guests, but my gaze never left Alex for more than a minutes. Every so often she'd glance over at me and I'd smile. She'd smile back or wave or even giggle a few times. I started talking to a new person about ever five minutes, but every time I looked back at Alex she was talking to this guy. I didn't recognize him and he looked to be about my age, maybe a year older. Another sponsor, Mrs. Bills, was talking to me, but I didn't hear a word she said. My eyes were glued to Alex as she talked to him. He'd said something and I saw her throw her head back and laugh and touch his shoulder. She laughed too and took a step closer. I was fuming. I was ready to go over and say something when I was cut off by a voice over the speaker.
"Alright, good evening everyone, I'm Cindy Watkins, I'm the manager of Youthful Exuberance." The audience applauded.
"Thank you so much for coming out tonight, it means a lot to me and the band. We wouldn't be here without all of you." More applause.
"So, that being said, how about we get them up here to give us a little preview of one of the songs huh?" The audience clapped again and my friends and I made our way over to our instruments. I walked up to the microphone.
"Alright, well again, thanks for coming out everyone. This song is actually one Kelley and I wrote a long time ago. It's about was how we imagined we'd feel if we ever got here, and let me say, we were spot on. Alright, this song is called Waiting." She audience clapped and we started to play.

I've been waiting a long time
For this moment to come
I'm destined
For anything...at all
Downtown lights will be shining
On me like a new diamond
Ring out under the midnight hour
No one can touch me now
And I can't turn my back
It's too late ready or not at all

Well, I'm so much closer than
I have ever known...
Wake up

Dawning of a new era
Calling...don't let it catch you falling
Ready or not at all
So close enough to taste it
Almost...I can embrace this
Feeling....on the tip of my tongue
