Tobin POV
We got in the elevator with all our stuff and I pressed the button for lobby. Just for fun, after the wedding reception, Alex, our friends and I decided to stay at the LaReine hotel down the street. I heard a groan next to me and Alex rested her head against my arm.
"What's up?" I asked her.
"I wanna go back to our wedding reception." She whined. I laughed.
"Me too babe." I said. She swung around so she was in front of me and wrapped her arms around my neck.
"The dancing," she said while dancing, "the cake, and that song babe. I mean I thought the one at the ceremony was good, but you really outdid yourself." I nodded.
"And Kelley's speech." I laughed, while Alex glared at me.
"I'm still mad at her for that."We had sat down to hear Ali and Kelley's speeches. Between the two of them they decided Ali would go first.
"I met Alex when we were six years old. Actually our mothers were friends before we were. Throughout grade school, middles school, and high school, Alex and I were inseparable. And then she met someone by the name of Tobin Heath." The audience laughed. "Tobin, I have to admit, at first, I didn't like you." Everyone laughed and I gave her a thumbs up while Alex rubbed my arm.
"Tobin was this cool, mysterious guitar playing, rock and roller. And, still is. And as a best friend I just didn't want Alex to get sucked in and get hurt. Tobin I think you surprised all of us. You had a reputation when it came to dating, but you truly made Alex happy. In that time when you were gone, I had never seen her less like herself. Distant, cold, you brought back the life in her, and for that I can't thank you enough. There's just one thing I ask. You never leave her again." She thanked everyone for listening and sat down. We all clapped while Kelley stood up to start her speech.
"Tobin, Alex, at the end of today, I expect a thank you. The amount of shit I did to keep you two together is unimaginable." I laughed a bit.
"From high school to now, without me none of us would be sitting here." I felt Alex shift next to me, I draped an arm around the back of her chair.
"These two are the queens of jumping to conclusions. Alex thought Tobin was cheating on her, Tobin thought Alex could never like her, getting these two together was a nightmare." I felt Alex's hands clench.
"Sometimes I wonder if they should even be getting married." At this Alex got up and walked away. I looked around at everyone before running after her.We stepped out of the elevator.
"Lex I get that you're upset but you'll have to forgive her eventually."
"Tobin she took the speech that was supposed to be complimenting to us, and basically bashed our relationship."
"I know, but I don't know why Lex." We walked up to the front desk.
"Hi, we're checking out of the bridal suit." I said.
"Yup. No longer a bride, never be a bride again. Now I'm just someone's wife." Alex mumbled. I looked over to her.
"And I'm the happiest girl in the world!" I said to the attendant. Alex sighed and walked away.
"Cmon Lex don't be upset. We still have so much to look forward to." I said.
"Yeah right." She groaned.
"The honeymoon." I said.
"That's not til Thursday." She said.
"The wedding pictures."
"Those won't be ready for weeks." She sighed.
"Not the disposable cameras from the tables." Her eyes lit up.
"You're right! I knew I married you for a reason!" She wrapped me in a tight hug.
"I'll tell you what, I'll go get them developed and you can go home." She nodded.
"Ok Kelley's got the cameras, where is she?" I asked my friends.
"Still up in the room." I took the elevator back up to see her packing.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey." The air was still a bit awkward between us.
"So uh where are the disposable cameras from last night?" I asked.
"What cameras?" She asked.
"The cameras. Last night I asked you to take them." I said.
"No you didn't." She said.
"Right before we cut the cake I walked up to you and said-" she cut me off.
"Yeah you asked if I could do you a favor and then Alex came up to you and said you had to go say hi to her cousins and you left." She said, a bit of anger in her voice.
"So you don't have the cameras?" I asked.
"No, sorry." She said.
"So what? They're gone? Alex is gunna freak!" I said.
"What's new?" She said. I turned to look at her.
"Relax, I'm sure they're still here in the hotel, I'll help you look for them." She said.
"Great." I responded. I helped her finish packing and we headed out. We went opposite ways down the hall. I headed for the ballroom we had the reception in. I stared liking through tables. I says what looked to be a plastic bag so I got down on all fours and crawled under the table to look.
"Tobs?" I heard Kelley call. I went to stand up and slammed my head against the bottom of the table.
"Shit..." I mumbled. I stick my head out through the table cloth. I saw Kelley giggling.
"Did you find the cameras?" I asked.
"No," she shook her head, "did you?" She asked.
"Yeah, I did Kel, a while ago actually, that's why I'm here under the table, celebrating." She rolled her eyes.
"Well I checked lost and found, talked to the manager, checked our rooms, no ones turned them in." She shrugged.
"Great. Great." I said, "those cameras were the only thing that was gunna cheer Alex up today, now she's gunna be all depressed." I said.
"Maybe you should just tell her to get over it Tobs." Kelley said.
"What does that mean Kel?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Means just what I said." She responded.
"What's your problem lately dude? You were acting weird all day, and then in your speech you basically tell Alex and I to go fuck ourselves, and now you're acting like you're three." I said, my voice getting louder. Kelley looked at me for a long time.
"It's nothing." She said.
"Don't play that with me O'Hara, it's gotta be-" she cut me off.
"I didn't want you to marry Alex, ok." She said.
"You, what, but... Kelley you spent so much time trying to get Alex and I together and," I trailed off.
"Don't get me wrong," she stepped in, "Alex is great and all, but since you guys stared dating, and when we started planning the wedding, and now that it's all happening, I just, I feel like I'm losing my best friend." She said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. We took a seat on the ballroom floor.
"Do you remember when we were in school? We were inseparable. I could call you at two am and you'd be at my house in under five minutes. We'd hang out all the time, play music, go to parties, anything. Now I call you at six o'clock on a Friday night just to come over and play or have a drink, and you tell me you can't because you and Alex are busy rearranging furniture." She stifled a laugh.
"And soon it's gunna be you're busy taking care of a pregnant Alex, or you're taking the kid to T-ball and, and I miss my best friend." She said. I slung an arm around her and we sat in silence for a second.
"Do you really think I like rearranging furniture on a Friday night?" I asked. We both burst out laughing, and it took five minutes for us to stop.
"I'd much rather hang with you and play something." I said. She gave me a smile and a nod.
"Kel, Alex is the love of my life, and now my wife. But are my best friend in the whole world, nothing's gunna change that." We nodded, a mutual understanding.
"But if I could ask you for one favor, apologize to Alex about the speech?" I asked. She nodded.
"Got it." She smiled. I helped her up so we could keep looking.
"Hey what about this." She started, "This is the same ballroom from the reception. There's a band. There's gunna be plenty of dressed up people."
"What Kel, we dance our troubles away?" She gave me a smack upside the head.
"No stupid, we buy more cameras, throw our nice clothes back on and take some pictures. We just gotta make sure we don't get anyone else's face in them."
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Hey, I'm thinking about you're new brides at home, do you really wanna start your lives together by letting her down?" I looked around.
"Alright let's do it."
After we got dressed and snuck our way into the party we walked around taking pictures of things that remotely resembled our wedding. We needed shots of people so we decided to ask an older couple to help us.
"Excuse me, would you take our picture?" Kelley asked. They agreed and took a picture of us mimicking a conversation. We thanked them and started to walk away, but we didn't get far.
"Would you take one of us?" The man asked. Kelley and I exchanged a look.
"Sure." I said. I held the camera up to my eye.
"Click." I said. They looked at me confused.
"It didn't click." She said.
"I heard it." Kelley said.
"But there was no flash." The man said.
"Why won't you take our picture?" The woman asked.
"Um, I'll take your picture." I said I held the camera up and covered the lens with my finger. The flash went off and I smiled to them.
"You're finger was covering the lens." He said.
"Ok who are you, Annie Leibovitz? Get out of here!" Kelley yelled. The scurried away very frightened. We walked around taking pictures until we needed more vivid ones.
"Ok why don't you get up in stage and I'll get a picture of you doing the speech." I said. Kelley hopped in stage and mimicked a laugh. She was about to jump down when people started clinking their glasses. Kelley looked back at me unsure of what to do. She looked around before speaking.
"Um, if anyone has lost an iPhone, they've found one for pick up at the front desk." She said.
"That might be my phone." A man said walking up to us.
"You're phone?" Kelley said. I gave her a nudge.
"And iPhone 3." She said.
"Yes!" He said.
"With a pink case?" Kelley asked.
"Yes!" He said.
"I'm sorry, a pony case." Kelley said.
"Yes! Pink background with ponies." He said. She looked at him dumbfounded.
"Then go, go get it." She said. He ran out to go find his phone.
"Alright, ready for the last picture?" I asked.
"Yup." Kelley responded.
"Get ready to run." She gave me a nod.
I walked over behind the bride and looked around for a second. I tapped her in the shoulder and she turned.
"Congratulations on your wedding." I said. She smiled, as did I. I leaned in farther and farther until I kissed her. I heard Kelley snap the pic and we ran as fast as possible out of there. We hopped in the car and changed into regular clothes at her place. Then we went to the store to get the photos developed. We drove back to the condo and reviewed the story one more time. I fished my key from my pocket and opened the door. If only I'd known what fresh hell awaited inside.
