Tobin POV

The first few hours went by quickly. We talked and ate and read. But after a while we needed more, something to do. Both of us were getting a bit snippy from being confined to one place all day. It was about six o'clock, an hour and a half until takeoff. I was looking ahead out a window until someone yanked my earbuds out. I turned to see an angry Alex.
"Can you please stop taping your feet." She said crossing her arms.
"Lex," I started.
"What?" She turned to face me.
"I know we've been here a while, and it's starting to get boring, and you're upset about this disaster, but it's gunna be fine. Think about when we get to Paris. The lights, the food, the stars, anything." My voice has dropped to a whisper by now. She was smiling back at me.
"I'm sorry. I'm just so upset we're not there yet, and it's because we're sitting here doing nothing." She slumped down in her chair.
"Hey," I said, "how about I play you a new song?" I ask. She smiled at me and nodded her head vigorously. I bent down to my guitar case and took out the guitar.
"Now don't be disappointed, I was waiting to play you this when we were in Paris, but I think you need it now more than ever." She laughed s bit at that. She tucked her feet under her in the chair and turned her body to face me. I started strumming and looked up at her.

She is the sweetest thing that I know
You should see the way she holds me when the lights go low
Shakes my soul like a pot hole, every time
Took my heart upon a one way trip
Guess she went wandering off with it
Unlike most women I know
This one will bring it back whole
Daisies, daisies perched upon your forehead
Oh my baby, lately I know

I looked up with a sympathetic smile

That every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here

I gestured between the two of us

Oh yeah yeah yeah , yeah yeah yeah yeah

She is the river flow in Orwell
And tin wind chimes used for doorbells
Fields and trees and her smell, fill my lungs
Spent my summer time beside her
And the rest of the year the same
She is the flint that sparks the lighter
And the fuel that will hold the flame
Oh roses roses laid upon your bed spread
Oh my, all this, all this, I know

That every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah yeah

Well I found love in the inside
The arms of a woman I know
She is the lighthouse in the night that will safely guide me home
And I'm not scared of passing over
Or the thought of growing old
Because from now until I go

Every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah

Every night I'll kiss you you'll say in my ear
Oh we're in love aren't we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you're holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don't break around here
Yeah yeah yeah
You know hearts don't break around here
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah

Alex launched herself into my arms when I'd finished. Let's just say from then on she wasn't angry anymore. Hours came and went and before we knew it we were on our plane. Nine more hours. But this was easier. We were exhausted so Alex slept most of it. We happened to have a row to ourselves so she lied down with her head in my lap. A flight attendant came by looking worried.
"Ma'am" she whispered to me. I looked up to her.
"Would you like me to move this woman?" She asked.
"Oh no no no," I smiled, "she's with me." She let out a relieved sigh.
"Oh, thank god, sometimes sleepy passengers just pass out over whoever's near." She laughed, as did I.
"Is there anything I can get you?" She asked.
"Um, can we get a Stella and a Chardonnay for when she wakes up?" I laughed.
"Right away." The woman smiled and walked off to get out drinks. I spent the flight reading and writing new music. Words, notes, chords, anything I could think of. I had some pretty solid groundwork by the time we'd landed. We got off the plane, through baggage claim, and into our rental car in 30 minutes. We drove the hour drive to the hotel. It seemed to go by fast, so tired just drifting through it all. When we got to the hotel, the sleepiness kept hitting Alex.
"Toby I'm gunna go sit in a couch, can you check in?" She asked in a groggy voice. I led her to a lobby couch and went to check in. When I'd finished and gone back, she was lying on the couch asleep. I had our bags sent up to our room while I picked up sleeping Alex and made my way to the elevator and the room. Trying to use the room key while holding her was a challenge to say the least. But eventually I'd managed to do it. We got in and I payed Alex on the bed. I took off her shoes, and changed her in to pajamas. I pulled the covers up and over her which she immediately too in her arms and snuggled into. I changed into shorts and a tee and walked back over to her side of the bed. I brushed her hair back from her face and leaned down to kiss her forehead. Unexpectedly, she put her arms around my neck and kissed my cheek.
"Mmm, we're in love aren't we?" She whispered matter-of-factly to me. I let out a small laugh.
"You better believe it kid."
