Tobin POV

I walked up the stairs with my feet feeling heavier every step of the way. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. It took a second, but eventually it was opened.
"Tobin? Well isn't this a surprise." A voice said with a smile.
"Hi Mrs. Morgan," I smiled, "how are you?" I asked.
"Oh I'm fine dear, come on in." She ushered me indoors. We sat on the couch as she got us some coffee. We made small talk for about 15 minutes.
"So, if I may, what's your reasoning for coming all the way down here, without Alex I might add." She laughed. I put down my cup.
"Ah yes." I hesitated, not knowing how to start. "Mrs. Morgan, I love your daughter very much." She smiled. "More than, anything in the world. I love getting to see her everyday. Getting to talk to her and see how she thinks. Getting to laugh with her. Getting to hold her in my arms. Getting to call her mine." She put a hand on my knee.
"I hope you know Alex feels the same way." I smiled and nodded.
"And since I love those things so much, I can't imagine not doing them everyday, or doing them with someone else, or having her do them with someone else. Which is why, is like to ask for your blessing, to ask your daughter to marry me." I breathed out. Mrs. Morgan didn't move for a little while. Eventually she out a cold hand on my leg again.
"Tobin," uh oh. Here it comes. "I can't think of anyone better, for my daughter to spend the rest of her life with." I smiled over to her.
"You're kind, able to support her, and from what I can see, you love her, which is most important." I got up to hug and thank her. We spent a couple more minutes there until I told her I had to leave. I drove to my old house to lick Kelley up.
"Alright, ready for ring hunt 2.0?" She asked.
"We're not using code names this time." I said. She groaned and squirmed next to me. We pulled up to a small jewelry store a ways away from our town. The man there welcomed us as we looked around. Kelley and I talked about the rings until one caught my eye. I asked the man if he could take it from the case for me to see it. He out on a metal wirey pair of glasses before hold big the ring up to the light.
"This is a Tolkowsky 1 and one third carrot total weight diamonds, 14k white gold." The light seemed to hit the ring perfectly. I slowly took it from his hands and nodded.
"That's the one." I said to Kelley. "I can see myself proposing with this one, and I am see her saying yes." I smiled.
"Very well." The man said as he packaged the ring. "It'll come out to $6899." I reached into my pocket.
"Shit! I left my wallet at home." I looked around.
"Ok," I said to Kelley, "you guard the ring, and I'll go get the money." I drove home faster than I ever had before. I took the steps jumping up two at a time. I jiggled my key in the lock a few times before the door finally popped open. I ran up the steps in our condo to see Alex sitting at the counter with a cup of coffee.
"Hey," her head shot up when she noticed me. "Where've you been babe?" She gave me a sad smile.
"Oh um, just out." I tried to cover myself. She got up from her chair and slowly walked over to me. She wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned into me.
"Well, I missed you." She whispered to me. I gave her a smile, that's all I could muster then. She returned it and leaned in to brush our lips together. I pulled her closer to me by the waist, and she pulled my head down by the neck. For a minute or two I got lost in the kiss, but then I remembered why I came back here. My eyes shot open and I pulled back to see a very confused Alex.
"I uh, I have to go do something." I said trying to walk away. She reluctantly let you.
"You alright babe?" She asked me.
"Hm? Oh yeah, never better!" I responded. I grabbed my wallet really quickly and gave her a kiss on the cheek. As I was doing that, Alex grabbed my face to deepen the kiss. When I pulled back, seeing the distraught look on her face broke my heart. I let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry babe, you have no idea how much I just wanna spend the day with you. But there's one thing I have to do first." She nodded. "I love you." I said leaning in to peck her lips.
"I love you too." I raced back to the jewelry store. I walk in to see Kelley with her back to me, talking to the man.
"Alright, do is there anything in here I can get for ten bucks?" She asked. The man looked at her before speaking.
"Why yes, in fact I can give you these two, rather beautiful, five dollar bills." He deadpanned. I could tell Kelley was rolling her eyes. She turned around and went wide eyed when she saw me.
"Alright, so where's that ring?" I asked. Kelley looked down.
"Kel?" I dragged out.
"Ok, so I was trying on the bracelets and necklaces and rings and this tiara that they had. Which by the way, is unbelievable and so light for having diamon-"
"Get to the point Kelley." I said, knowing something went wrong.
"And I wasn't paying attention and some guy came in and bought the ring from another salesman." I just started at her for a second.
"But look at this ring, it's really pretty, use this one." I looked at it.
"No, Kel, I don't want some cheap gum all machine looking ring!" I turned back to the salesman who looked offended.
"I mean this beautiful ring." I turned back to Kelley.
"Kel, I could see myself proposing with the other ring. And more importantly, I could see her saying yes." I dropped my shoulders. The three of us stood in silence before Kelley screamed and we all turned to her.
"I heard him say he was going to propose at Porta, that gourmet pizza place tonight!" Kelley said jumping.
"So?" I asked with a defeated tone.
"So we but this ring, then tonight we go to the restaurant and ask for your ring back!" Kelley said. I looked at her for a second. Sure, it was crazy, but at this point, I was willing to try anything.
"Let's do it."
