Tobin POV

Alex was asleep, curled up next to me, although she wasn't facing me, she gave me her back. Odd. I saw my phone light up so I reached across the nightstand to get it.

Kelley: Hey, you ready?

Tobin: Good to go, meet me outside my room in 10

I put my phone down and slowly and carefully rolled Alex off me. I got dressed in some jeans and a nice button down. I fixed myself in the mirror before grabbing my key, wallet, and heading out the door. I waited for about a minute before Kelley showed up.
"Looking good Tobs." She said.
"You too." I shot her a smile. I let her lead the way and we walked to the elevator. We went down to the lobby and waited on the curb to catch a cab. It's surprisingly easy at 1am.
"Where to?" The driver said as we got in.
"26 West 47th street." I read off a piece of paper I'd scrawled the address on this morning.
"You got it." He said. We drove for maybe 20 minutes making small talk with the driver. We pulled up to the address.
"17 dollars and 13 cents." He says. I fish around my wallet and pull out a twenty.
"Keep the change." I say stepping out of the cab. He smiles gratefully at me.
"Have a good night!" He leans out of the window and waves.
"Ready?" Kelley asks. I nod and we walk in. We're immediately greeted by a woman who works there.
"Welcome to R&R Jewelers, how may I help you?" She looked to be about 60. She had short brown hair, thick glasses and wrinkled cheeks. I walked up to her and leaned on the counter.
"Yes, hi, I'm just here to look for promise rings." I said. She directed me to a part of the store that was designated for promise rings.
"Ok, which one you like?" I asked Kelley. She looked around for a second.
"This one looks nice, not too flashy and a little darker." I looked at her for a second.
"Ok, but, for Alex." I laughed.
"So, bigger, brighter, and better?" Kelley joked.
"Exactly." Kelley and I looked around for a while, I rejected every one for some reason or another.
"Tobs, if you keep shooting the rings down we're gunna be here all night." She said.
"Might I suggest something like this?" The woman asked bring a black box from behind the counter. She opened it up to reveal a silver ring. It looked like a knot was being tied around the diamond in the center, with two smaller ones on either side. I picked up the box.
"It's perfect." I smiled.
"Now, it costs a bit more than-" I cut her off.
"Doesn't matter."
"Alright." The woman smiled and rung us up.
"Time?" Kelley asked.
"3 o'clock." I said.
"Christ Tobs, you took two hours?!" She said.
"Yeah, but now it gunna be perfect." We hailed a cab and got back to the hotel. I hid the ring in in my nightstand and slipped into bed next to Alex.
We both woke up again at nine.
"Morning." I said with a smile.
"Hi." Alex said, her voice sounding flat.
"You alright?" I asked as she stood up. She nodded and slipped into the bathroom to take a shower. I got dressed in nice clothes right when Alex came out. She looked at me confused.
"Surprise, we're going in a breakfast date!" I said with a smile. She returned a small one and kept getting ready. She took about 15 minutes.
"Ok, let's go." She said. I took her hand and we walked out. We didn't say much. We got to the little bistro I had planned on and were seated immediately. They brought out mimosas and food right away. Waffles for me, French toast for Alex. She picked at her food.
"Is something wrong?" I asked. She shook her head.
"Alex, I love you." I said. She just nodded.
"Alex, I've loved you for a long time. You're the most important person in the world to me. You make me happy. Which is why-" she cut in
"Tobin, why are you doing this." She said. I was shocked.
"Because I love you."
"Are you sure about that." She glared at me.
"I've never been more sure if anything." I said. She scoffed at me.
"Don't think I haven't noticed." She hissed.
"Noticed what?" She spoke just above a whisper.
"The lying, the sneaking around. The cheating." My head was spinning.
"Wh-the-wh- the cheating? Lex what the hell are you talking about?" I said.
"Don't play dumb Tobin."
"I'm not playing dumb, I'm never playing dumb." I heard my words out loud, "Ok I wanna go back. I'm not playing dumb." She snickered, weather it be cynical or just laughing at my stupidity, I'll never know.
"Alex what are you talking about?"
"You know."
"I don't. I never did anything, I never lied, snuck arou-" she cut me off by standing up and yelling.
"Oh save the bullshit Tobin! Do you really think I didn't see you! Standing outside OUR door talking to and then hugging Kelley? You didn't think unnoticed when you guys left at 1am today? You know what, this has happened before, multiple times, but I really thought I could trust you this time. I was wrong." She threw her napkin down and stormed out. I looked around to see all the customers looking at me.
"My apologies." I forced a smile and ran out calling after Alex.
