Tobin POV
"Y-you wanna buy a house together?" I asked, still a little shocked.
"Y-yeah, but, if you don't want to..." She trailed off.
"I just, I just really love what we've got now." I started to say.
"Plus the hassle of buying the house, moving, is, is it worth it?" I asked. She silently nodded and dropped her shoulders. I kept driving until we reached my house. I parked the car but before Alex could get out I locked the doors.
"Are you mad at me?" I asked, kinda knowing the answer.
"No." She said shortly.
"Lex-" I out a hand behind her head rest.
"I'm not mad Tobin. I can't make you wanna move." She said unlocking her door and walking inside. I hopped out of the car and ran after her. By the time I got inside she was in my room and closed the door rather harshly. I let out a sigh and slid down the wall dropping out coats in the process. Just then Kelley came walking in whistling.
"Don't mind me, just forgot my-"
"Actually Kel, can we talk for a second?" I ask. She agrees and we sit at the kitchen counter.
"Ok, well I royally fucked up." I said bluntly.
"Oh what'd you do you fucking idiot?" She lets out a sigh.
"Alex asked if I wanted to get a house or something with her and I said no." I sighed.
"And now she's...?" She trailed off.
"Locked herself in my room." She shakes her head.
"Not looking good." She said.
"Yeah I pieced that one together Sherlock."
"So now what?" I said.
"I don't even know dude. Somehow, no matter how bad a situation is, you have this unbelievable talent for being able to make it worse." She says. I chuckled.
"Well they do call me the king." I said. She laughed back and got up.
"You'll figure it out." She playfully lunches my arm.
"Yeah yeah." She walks out and shuts the door. I sat down in the couch and looked at the stack of mine and Alex's magazines that were there. I flipped through them looking for something to read. Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Cosmo, Sports Illustrated, People, as I come to the bottom of the pile, there's a magazine I wasn't expecting. Homes and Land, a real estate magazine. I flip though the pages until I see a page dog eared. I skim over it. There's one place circled in red marker. It's a condo. 326,000 dollars, two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and a living space. It's a street over and just across the street from the beach. 2, 517 square feet, bigger than where I'm living now. I let out a sigh as I sit back and look over the pictures again. I hear the lock of my door turning. I quickly hide the magazine and grab a new one. Alex walks out, not looking her happiest.
"I'm gunna shower." She states. I nod and smile as she walks to the bathroom. She's halfway in when she looks back at me.
"Tobs?" She says. I look up.
"Of all magazines we have, why are YOU, reading Vogue? And why is it upside down?" She asks. I look at the cover and throw the magazine in the table while forcing a laugh. I manage a small chuckle out of her before she slips into the bathroom. I stare at the door for a little while before I grab my coat off the rack and slip out of the house.
A few hours later my friends are over with us. We're sitting at the table, Alex still not in the best mood.
"I'm gunna go grab some more beers." I say getting off my stool to go to the other room. I grab a few and start to walk back. Before I can come around the wall I hear voices and stop myself.
"And then she said, is it even worth it?" Alex said mocking me.
"I'm sorry if us actually living together isn't worth her time." She says.
"Lex, you know she loves you." One of my friends says. She lets out a sigh.
"And I love her, but sometimes she can be the biggest idiot in the world."
"Just talk to her, do it now even." Kelley says. I walk back into the kitchen and put the beers down. I sit next to Alex and put an arm around her.
"Hey can I ask you something?" She says. I nod my head.
"Why didn't you wanna move?" She says. I shrug.
"Just don't wanna rush." She scoffs a bit.
"Rush? Tobs we've been together for about two years." She says slowly.
"Well yeah, but why do we need to go buying houses together? Aren't you happy here?" My friends slumped down.
"Yeah, I just think we're ready to take the next step."
"Lex I mean, what's the point?" I chuckle. She stands up.
"What's the point? The point is to show how much we love and are committed to each other. To-to be closer. To have the pleasure of sharing a home with the one you love. Tobs, if we're not moving forward, then where are we going?" She asks.
"Woah woah woah, slow down Lex." I said standing up. She just laughs
"I don't think we can go any slower Tobin!" She said a bit louder. She looks around, remembering my friends are here.
"I just, I just need a minute." She says walking to my room and shutting the door. I stand there, hands in my pockets, and let out a sigh. My friends don't say anything until Kelley pipes up.
"She bought it." She chuckles. I nod in response.
"So, you went and looked at the condo?" She asks. I turn around with a smile.
"Yeah, it's beautiful. Perfect for us."
"I can't believe you're gunna buy the place for you guys." They get up and hug me. I smile to them.
"Yeah, I know"
