Tobin POV

We pulled into the doctors office and I parked the car.
"Alright, let's do this." I said.
"Alright babe, we're going to the doctors, not on a secret mission." Alex patted my knee and got out of the car.
"Hey hey hey, you're the pregnant one, let me help you out babe." I said running around the car and next to her and wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Tobs, I'm pregnant, not dying." She laughed.
"Yeah, but you are giving me a child that I'll love forever, the least I can do is give you a hand while doing so." I said.
"You're very sweet." She kissed my cheek as I opened the door for her. I got the papers from the front desk and filled them out for her. We talked for about 10 minutes until they called us in. Alex changed into a gown and sat down in the chair. I walked around the room looking at diagrams and models of pregnant women, fetuses, everything you could imagine. The doctor's office was bland. Beige walls, white tile floors and ceilings, one small window, it was almost depressing. There was a machine by Alex's chair. I walked back to Alex and saw the tray of tools. I picked one up and held it up in front of my face.
"Hey Lex, look, I'm a duck." I started laughing and she just smiled at me.
"Tobs?" She said.
"Yeah?" I asked before quacking.
"That opens my cervix." She said. I swear my eyes were wider than ever. I threw it down as my cheeks went red. She just laughed.
"You're adorable." She said as the doctor walked in. After that I started to feel sick.
"Good morning. How are we feeling? Any nausea?" He asked.
"Yeah, a little." We both responded. He looked back up at me, a bit confused.
"Well, I was asking the pregnant one, but I'm sorry to hear that Mrs. Heath, maybe we can get you an antacid or something." He asked with a chuckle.
"Well, let's start with an ultrasound." He started the process and I sat down in a chair and took Alex's hand. We watched the screen showing Alex's stomach and smiled.
"Alright, everything looks good." He said. I squeezed Alex's hands.
"Oh, no, oh hang on." He said.
"What what? Is everything ok? Is the baby alright?" I said standing up.
"No, no, health isn't the problem." I sat back down.
"Then what is it? Is it Alex? Is she alright?" I asked, getting worked up again.
"Have, uh, have we talked about the possibility of multiple births?" He said, seemingly embarrassed. I quirked an eyebrow at him.
"Ok, well how about we handle this baby first, and then if I get pregnant again I'll hold onto your thought." Alex chuckled to me, I don't think she got it.
"It looks like, the ultrasound shows three separate heartbeats, Mrs. Heath, I'm not too sure how to tell you this, but, you're having triplets." He smiled. I just started at him.
"We-we're having three babies?" Alex asked.
"Yes you are." He said pointing to the ultrasound on the screen. It was as clear as day. He pointed out three separate hearts. Although the grainy black and white picture made it somewhat difficult, I could've spotted them at any moment. And now the weight of those three tiny hearts felt much heavier as I felt it in my chest.
"But we only ordered one." I said. The doctor chuckled and looked back at us.
"Well it seems like you got more than you bargained for." He said putting his tools down.
I looked to Alex, waiting for her response.
"That's, great!" She said with a smile as she looked between us. The doctor must've noticed my face.
"I'll give you two a second." He said standing up and closing the door as he left.
"Tobs?" She turned to me, seemingly asking if I was ok.
"Triplets! Triplets!" I said as I stared at her.
"Ok, You're panicking." She said trying to calm me down.
"Yeah, I am, join me, won't you?" I said. She looked at me with a serious glare.
"Ok, What if we keep one, and give the other two up for auction?" I asked.
"We can't split them up!" She half yelled.
"Why not? We could give each of them half a medallion. And then, years later, they'll find each other, and be reunited! I mean that's a great day for everybody." I said, thinking the idea was pretty brilliant. She shook her head and rolled her eyes.
"What if the people who adopt them are horrible?" She asked.
"What if they're not? What if it's, the king!" I said putting my arms up as I started to pace around the room.
"Yeah, because I hear the king is looking to adopt." She said, sarcasm dropping from her voice. I turned around and leaned over do we were very close.
"Alex, babe, we're just not ready to have three babies." I said quietly
"That doesn't matter anymore babe." She said.
"Alex think about this, it's three babies." I said, pleading with her.
"I don't care if it's three babies. I don't care if it's four babies. I don't care if the entire cast of 19 kids and counting comes out of me. We're taking them home. They are our children." She said. I looked back at her. There was nothing but seriousness and sheer determination in her eyes. What else could I do?
"Yeah. Ok. Ok." I said quietly.
"Ok!" She yelled, caught up in excitement.
"...ok" I whispered back, a bit freighted. Just then the doctor came back.
"Are we alright?" He asked, we both nodded. He smiled.
"You know giving birth to three babies isn't that different than giving birth to one." The doctor said sitting down.
"Oh what do you know?" Alex said, "I'm going to have three babies come out of me!" She said.
