Tobin POV

"Alex is there even a difference between eggshell and swan colored paint?" I ask as Alex drags me through Home Depot.
"Yes. Yes there is. And since you won't help with this, I'm deciding what colors we paint."
"But white is so boring." I say from behind her.
"Then what do you suggest?" She asks. I think for a second, before an idea pops into my head.
"I saw this in a magazine once. You paint a wall white, and the you splatter paint over it with like two or three other colors." I said standing next to her.
"Like we could paint one wall, eggshell," I said as I took the sample from her hand, "and then splatter paint it with Azure, Maya blue, and Egyptian blue." I said plucking the sample from their display case. Alex took them from my hand and looked the over. She looked at the samples, then back to me, then back to the samples.
"I think, it's perfect." She said with a smile.
"You're finally helping." She laughed.
"Ok, now coffee tables." She said pushing the shopping cart.
"Lex we own a coffee table." I said laughing.
"But we need a new one, ours is broken and dirty." She said.
"That table's fine." I said shrugging my shoulders.
"Tobin, you have put your feet up on that table millions of times, leaving a scuff mark where you always sit, when you've gotten a little too excited you've jumped on top of it, and broken one of its legs, and," she dropped her voice, "we've, we've had sex on that table." She said, still walking.
"Ok, one, I can repaint it or buff that out, two I've fixed that leg, and three, well number three isn't really a problem." I laughed wrapping an arm around her waist. I buried my nose in her neck. She giggled and put her hands on my chest to jokingly push me away.
"Cmon, let's just get a new table, we can give keep the old one at the other house." She said.
"Fineeeeee." I dragged out.
We made our way over to coffee tables. What should've been a twenty minute browse turned into an hour long inspection.
"Alex, I love you more than life itself, but I don't see a difference, nor do I care if our coffee table is white oak or live edge cherry." I said leaning on the cart. She gave me a look and kept browsing. Eventually, she went with live edge cherry. We got to our new home a while later.
"Alright, can you take this stuff upstairs?" Alex asked gesturing to our trunk full of paint cans and disassembled furniture.
"Why do I have to do it?" I asked. She turned to smile at me.
"Because you are my strong, muscled, rock star." She said grabbing at the sides of my shirt.
"Lex," I started to say.
"Baby if anyone can do it, it's you." She whispered as she put her head on my chest.
"Yeah alright, I'll do it." She smiled and kissed me. I watched her walk inside and cursed under my breath when I realized what she did.
I got all the furniture in about half an hour later.
"Lex I thought we were just gunna buy paint." I said putting the last piece down.
"But look Tobin, it's all so pretty!" She said patting something. I rolled my eyes.
"So what's first?" I asked.
"Assembly." She said.
"Alright, I'll take the bookcase, you take the stools?" I asked. She nodded to me and set off to find the box. This went well for about twenty minutes before Alex broke one stool and I cut my hand. We flipped on the couch we still had.
"We aren't very good at this." I laughed. We rested for about half an hour before getting back to work. It took all day, but we got the essential furniture done. We out the stuff we could do later in another room.
"Can we just paint tomorrow?" Alex asked as she sat down next to me.
"Absolutely." I said. I lied down and she rested on top of me. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her head. She reached up to the radio in the table above my head and turned it on.
"Mmmm, this is one of my favorite songs of yours." She giggled when she heard my voice.
"You know, Kelley and I wrote this song passing notes back and forth in a class." I laughed back.
"When?" She laughed back.
"Right after the first time we got back together." I smiled. She leaned down to kiss me and rested her head in my chest.

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

I could hear her softly start to sing along to the radio

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

I started to run her back as I sang along with her

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

I could feel her smiling, so I smiled too.

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

In my life I love you more

"Hey." I whispered as I lifted her head.
"No matter how many people I've known, or will ever meet, it's you. It's gunna be you. It's always been you Lex." She smiled and kissed me again before lying down.
"Can I tell you a secret?" She whispered a few minutes later.
"Anything." I whispered back. I felt her squeeze me a bit tighter and snuggle her head to my neck before she said, "It's always been you too."
