The first thing I felt when I woke up was pain. Excruciating and agonising pain.
My eyes flew open as I felt a piercing stab in my back, and I jolted upright in my bed. 'Wait, this isn't my bed. I don't remember going home...' That's when I noticed that wasn't in my room. I was, instead, laying in a plain white bed surrounded by other beds just like it. 'Where am I? '
"Good. You're awake."
I turned my head to face the voice which had come from my right, only to find a kind, elderly looking woman. She also struck me as... odd. She wore a white coat, much like a doctor's, but had huge purple glasses and a pink helmet on her hair. Her grey hair was tied neatly up in a bun, and it kind of scared me that she had a syringe stuck through it.
'Most people put pencils in their hair, but I guess you could do that with syringes, too.'
"W-Who are you, and where am I?" I asked, only now realising how dry my throat was. I rubbed at my throat, and the woman obviously understood what I needed, because she already had a cup of water in her hand ready for me. I muttered a quick, "Thank you," before slogging it down very ungracefully.
"My name's Recovery Girl, and you're in UA High's medic wing, dear," the elderly woman said, a kind smile stretching her wrinkled cheeks. "You expended quite a lot of energy during your exam, sweetie. Almost thought you'd stopped breathing at one point."
Suddenly, I remembered what had happened.
"The exam!" I flung the sheets that I was under off of me and started to get up. Only to stop and hiss with pain when I felt my body collapsing to ground.
"Whoa, hold up, dear. You've been out for about two hours now, so take it easy," Recovery Girl urged, leading me back up onto the bed. As she tucked me in, she continued, "I've done all that I can do to ease any pain you've felt, but your energy levels are extremely low. I suggest staying here until your parents come to pick you up this afternoon. Until then, stay here and rest. I have another child to take care of. Honestly, UA just pushes you kids too hard..."
Recovery Girl trailed off while walking away, heading down to the other end of the room where, I assumed, the other kid was. Sigh. I laid my head back on my pillow and closed my eyes, an overwhelming feeling of failure and uncertainty washing over me.
'I collapsed in the middle of the exam,' I thought as I rolled over onto my left side. 'What if I didn't get enough points from the robots to pass? And what about those other kids that were with me? Did they get out all right? Oh man...'
As my thoughts started to overwhelm my brain, I heard a shout of pain come from the other end of the room.
"Ouch!" It's sounded like a boy's voice, although it was slightly higher pitched. Curious, I sat up and leaned forward beyond the separating curtains that made cubicles around each bed. Every other bed was empty, except the very end bed on the same side as me, near the window. I saw Recovery Girl, but the glare from the early afternoon sun made it impossible to see who the kid was.
"Now I hope you don't become a regular patient, young Midoriya, if you are accepted," I heard Recovery Girl say. "Those injuries of yours aren't natural, and if they're a result of your quirk than I fear you're going to be visiting this old lady quite often."
"Thank you, Recovery Girl. I appreciate the help."
With that, Recovery Girl made her way back up to my end of the room. Remembering that I was meant to be resting, I scrambled back into my bed, laid down, and pulled the covers over me tight. Closing my eyes, I'd hoped that she would give me a once over then move on. I heard Recovery Girl pass, stop, and move on, making me release a breath I didn't even realise I was holding. However, I soon heard, "You better be resting when I get back in an hour, young L/N."
