Togata's cry tore through the silence like a bullet, echoing in the depths of my soul. I found myself tugging Eri closer to me, unable to tear my eyes away from the gruesome sight. No... No... Nighteye, he...
The green-haired Pro raised his head towards Overhaul, his eyes glazing over purple and black. "Let me see it!" he cried, blood slipping out of his mouth and down his chin. Unshed tears formed in the corners of his eyes as they returned to their golden state, fear written all over his face. Had he just tried using Foresight? Did he see a future? Anything?
Before anyone could make a move, Nighteye let himself fall further back on the spike, his head lolling to the side. My blood ran cold; no amount of body heat from Eri able to warm me up. "Nighteye..."
Suddenly, a great power surge beside me caught my attention; and before I could tell him to stop, Midoriya was already blasting his way towards Overhaul. Green lighting flashed and flickered as he flew, suddenly overflowing with some renewed power. Overhaul turned in his direction, planting his foot and sending a barrage of spikes towards Midoriya. Slamming his foot into the ground, Midoriya managed to fling up a wall of his own just as the spikes were about to hit him.
"Deku!" I called, but cut myself off at the expression my classmate wore. His lips were pulled back in a nasty snarl and his eyebrows were furrowed together, emerald eyes blazing. He was strong before, but now he was pushing himself to the ultimate limit. Shit, Midoriya was pissed.
"Take her," he called over his shoulder. "Get Eri to safety."
Togata gave him a single nod, but I couldn't find it in me to agree. To the untrained eye, Midoriya looked fine. But I saw the slight trembling of his body, and my Nova Sight picked up on his vitals. The strength Midoriya was using... he couldn't keep it up for long.
"Lemillion," I said, placing Eri on the ground with him. "You take her and you get her out of here. I'm gonna stay and help Deku and Sir."
"No, Nova. We can't risk it," Togata's strangled voice came out. "I should be the one to-"
"You are in no fit condition to do anything, actually, Togata; but I'm counting on you to get Eri out of here while I do everything I can to keep those two out there alive." Togata's blue eyes widened as I met them with my own, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Everyone is relying on you, Togata. You got Eri this far, now take her home."
He looked about ready to argue again, but I sent a pulse of energy flowing through him, shutting him up. His pale face flooded with a little colour, and he didn't seem to slouch as much. And although he still looked dreadful, Togata finally caved in and gave me a nod.
"Thank you." I turned my gaze to Eri, giving her a quick hug before leaping to my feet again. "Look after each other, okay?"
My legs kicked into gear, leading me over and under a cement spike field until I reached the base of the spike Nighteye laid upon. Forming some steps, I climbed up until I was around his head. Through the spikes I could see the open field Overhaul and Midoriya stood facing off. Midoriya's gaze flickered my way for a moment, to which I pointed at Nighteye beside me and placed my finger over my lips in a silencing motion.
My classmate seemed to understand me, and gave me a subtle nod before turning back to his fight. He would remain quiet so as not to draw attention to me and Nighteye. Good.
"Sir," I whispered as I placed a hand underneath his lolling head. "It's going to be okay, sir. I've got you."
He let out a few strangled coughs before turning his golden gaze to me. My heart twinged at the sadness they held in them; so much pain and sorrow pooling in their deep depths.
