Come on guys. Bring it home for us. For UA High.
"Wow. Eight people just passed at the same time. That leaves only ten open spots."
"Crap," I muttered, Mera's message increasing my worry ten-fold.
The screen still remained in the bird's eye view, but more smoke arose from the mountainous terrain - the area we started in. My classmates could possibly still be there, fighting for those few spots remaining. However, it wasn't looking good.
Momo shifted beside me, scrunching her eyebrows together. "Looks like our class..."
"Has nine people who haven't passed," Kyoka finished off. "I hate to say it, but it's not sounding good for us."
I just nodded, unable to say anything. What good would it do? All of us inside the antechamber passed. Cleared the round - were safe. The people who really needed the help were outside, but there was nothing I could do for them. I reminded myself to have faith in them, but I hated to admit how much my faith was starting to waver.
"Looks like your class is in a little bit of a pickle, L/N."
I jumped at the sudden voice, twisting around to see a smirking Shindo, followed by his classmates from Ketsubutsu. All up, there were eight of them. So they were the ones to pass just now.
Seeing the smirking brunette reminded me of the stunt he'd pulled earlier, and I suddenly had the urge to punch the guy. Although I was pretty sure I was the only one who could sense energy, Shoto must've felt my intense anger, for he pressed his cold hand against the small of my back. Subtle chills exuded from his hand, sending shivers rattling down my spine.
He seemed to be saying: Cool it. He isn't worth it. And he was right. Shindo wasn't worth it... but something about his face just made him so endearingly punchable.
"You passed? Congrats, Shindo," I said instead, forcing a small smile. Just because Shindo had been a dick before, didn't mean I was going to stoop to the same level. "And thank you for your concern with our class, but there's no need. They have this in the bag."
Shindo's smirk widened, his chocolate eyes sparkling with delight. "Do they now? Because the last we saw of them, they weren't looking so good. In fact, I think that blond guy with the costume similar to a knight had already two red targets."
The mention of Aoyama made me flinch, my faith wavering again. "So? He's still in the game, is he not? He'll do it. He'll pass. They all will."
"Wow! So much faith, and yet so little time. Face it, L/N, not all your classmates will pass today. It's clear not all of you are cut out to be heroes."
That's it.
Lunging forward, I felt my hands burning white hot, the heat engulfing me as my vision went white, tunnelling in on Shindo. Make him pay. Make him pay. Make him pay, a voice whispered in my mind, and I certainly was not disagreeing with it. Reaching out to the brunette, I clasped onto his arms, threw him down to the ground, and was about to throw a punch before I felt a restraint around my arms.
"Y/N, enough!" Shoto shouted, his brashness hitting me out of my blind stupor.
The heat died down, and the white energy disappeared along with my anger. All that was left from that burning rage was an empty void, the whispers of what was and what could've been slivering throughout me. Breathing heavily, I slacked in Shoto's arms, letting him haul me to my feet and away from Shindo. Said boy was left breathless on the floor, watching me with wide eyes and reminding me so much of Monoma.
