"Hyah!"

Clang

I stepped back from the bars, panting as I narrowed my eyes. The stubborn things were still in place; my energised kicks had done nothing. Although a few scratches littered the surface, no dents or major disfiguration had been made.

"Damnit," I growled, swinging my leg again. "What the heck are these things made of?"

My leg rebounded off the bars again, eliciting a frustrated cry as the iron remained untouched and in tact. It was starting to piss me off.

"Must be whatever these damn cuffs are made of, as well," Bakugou suggested, ramming into his own bars for the umpteenth time. "Damn bars must be made of some kind of quirk-cancelling material. Whatever that is must be able to withstand physical attacks, too. Damnit!"

I sighed, looking down at my own shackles. Bakugou was right, I hadn't been able to use my hands at all since I woke up with the cuffs. I could use my legs - and had been using them for a solid ten minutes - but even they were no use against the bars. 'But I can't stop now,' I thought, shaking away the negative thoughts. 'I have to keep going. I have to get out of here.'

An image of my smiling family and friends entered my mind, fuelling me to charge up again. I could feel my energy dwindling, but it wasn't gone just yet. I could still try, and so I would. Shoto's face came to mind, and - with that - I slammed my leg into the iron bars again.

"Come on!" I exclaimed, giving the kick all I had and more.

I gasped for breath, stumbling backwards onto the floor. My chest heaved for breath. The bars still hadn't moved; it was like they were taunting me by still standing there, towering over me as I lay on the floor exhausted. Frustration boiled inside me, and I could feel my hands ignite from within their shackles. But no matter how much I wanted to explode, the cuffs kept it all inside.

"For goodness sake!"

I slammed my trapped hands up against the brick wall in frustration. I heaved, glaring at the metal box surrounding my hands. Bakugou must've stopped his attacks, as well, for I didn't hear the clanging of metal from his cell anymore. He was probably frustrated just as much as I was.

'If the cuffs weren't here, I would have a better chance at getting out of here,' I thought. 'A better chance at melting these damn bars, grabbing Bakugou and high-tailing it out of here.' Glaring at the metal box encasing my hands, my eyes became curious as I spotted something... odd.

On the side of the cuffs, scratches ran along the once sleek surface, but that wasn't all. In amongst the scratches was a crack. It was small, so small that I almost missed it, jutting out from one of the corners of the box. I smiled.

"Hey, Bakugou, check this out," I said, walking over to the corner where our cells met.

"Whatever it is, lightbulb, I ain't interested," he grumbled, remaining in place leaning against the wall. "You should be kick-"

"Just come over here, Bakugou,"

With a roll of his scarlet eyes, my ash-blond classmate complied, albeit with hesitance. He walked over, leaning through the bars to peak at my cuffs. Bakugou's brows furrowed. "What is that? Is that a crack?"

I nodded, a smile adorning my lips. "Yeah, so do you know what that means?"

"That the shackles... must be slightly weaker to physical attacks than the bars!"

"Exactly." Turning back to the wall, I slammed the cuffs into it again. Another resounding crack echoed into my ears, but I didn't mind as I pulled the cuffs away to see the split had become bigger. "Bakugou, we get rid of these, and we can get out of here."
