A whole week had passed since we'd first heard about the work study decision; and also since my encounter with Amamjiki. I hadn't told anyone that I'd met him that afternoon because I hadn't seen the indigo-haired third year since our little meeting in the hallway. It was strange. What we'd talked about was private, and I didn't think it to be my place to say anything to anyone about it. The poor boy was a nervous wreck as it was - I shouldn't be adding to the fire.
Anyways, since then, the weekend had passed once more; as did Shoto's and Bakugou's first lot of special classes for the Licensing Exam retake. As much as it disgruntled Bakugou that he had to deal up with Shoto, they both exuded auras of fierce determination. If they wanted these licenses they were going to have to suck it up.
Whilst they did that, the rest of us with our licenses had been going about our school work as usual; also looking for hero agencies to do work studies with when we could. I'd researched and researched and researched all of the possible hero agencies that I could do a work study with, but every time I asked about them, Mr. Aizawa shut me down immediately. I really wanted to do a work study, but the school was certainly making it tricky to do so.
Most of my friends were also in the same boat, except for one...
"You found an agency for your work study?" Ochaco asked from her seat on one of the lounge's green padded stools. "Congratulations, Deku!"
"That's awesome," Mina added two stools away from her.
Iida nodded from where he stood above Midoriya, leaning down with an outstretched hand. "Indeed. Well done, Midoriya."
My green-haired friend took hold of Iida's hand, giving it a firm shake as a smile tugged at his lips. "Thanks, guys."
"No, thank you. You're an example to us all."
"That's so crazy how you've already found a work study, Midoriya," I said, sitting up from my position on the couch beside Tsu. "And no less with All Might's former partner, Sir Nighteye. That's just insane!"
"Yeah, I don't know how we're going to compete with that," Kaminari commented, walking over to us his hands behind his head.
Seemed as though almost everyone was in the lounge room, now. Sato followed closely behind Pikachu with a bag of chips in his hands, whilst Sero and Kirishima stopped a short distance behind them. Tokoyami made his way over to the wall to lean against - typical emo bird boy - and I spotted Ojiro and Shoji sitting opposite each other at one of the study tables. Just behind them on the opposite wall were Bakugou and Shoto, who seemed to be brooding in the corner for some reason. Typical boys.
"Yeah," Sero said, "You'll be working at Sir Nighteye's agency. That's seriously amazing!"
"And I hear Togata recommended you," Kirishima added.
"That's pretty impressive man," Sato finished off, taking a chip out of the packet and throwing it in his mouth.
Midoriya chuckled a little at that. "Um... yeah, I guess."
That was news to me. Togata recommended him? How strange. Maybe he'd been amazed by him during the match we had against him? Or maybe it was something deeper than that.
"He was powerless... But still, more heroic than anyone else."
"...I believe that he came... because he knew what he was looking for: the next Symbol of Peace."
It couldn't be a coincidence that Midoriya had a work study with All Might's former partner. It couldn't... right?
Brushing off my clouded thoughts, I looked over to where Bakugou and Shoto still stood away from us. Shoto leant against the wall with his arms crossed and head bowed, as Bakugou stood beside him with his hands shoved into his pockets and his usual scowl on his face. Shoto muttered something underneath his breath, his eyes locked on the back of Midoriya's head; to which Bakugou let out a loud scoff. I released a sigh at the sad sight. Obviously still brooding.
