I stared with wide eyes as my heterochromatic-haired friend stepped out of the darkness, his flames dying down slightly as he entered the light.
"You, too, Todoroki?" Iida asked, his question coming out in a puff of disbelief.
"How did you get here?" Midoriya asked, his eyes widening with another realisation. "Hang on... You're using your left side?"
He certainly was. Shoto's right hand was still ablaze with a handful of fire dancing about, shedding light on his hardened expression. I stared on in awe of the bright flames, a patch of warmth blooming in my chest as a small sense of pride wrapped my heart.
"How did I get here? Good question," Shoto answered. "Your message took me a while to figure out. Next time, try to send more than just your specific location. But you're not one to send cryptic messages without a reason, are you?"
Shoto bent low, positioning himself in a offensive stance. Stain stepped back a little, his defensive posture indicating he was beginning to lose control of the situation. 'Good.' Now all I had to do was get these knives out of me. I was lucky he didn't lick my blood, otherwise I'd be helpless.
I groaned with pain as I attempted to move my right hand again, this time bending it upwards to grip the knife in my forearm. Key word: attempted. I choked as I felt the knife twinge from my movement, sending a jolt of pain through me. It didn't go unnoticed; I saw Stain visibly stiffen at the noises I let out, telling me he knew I was still moving.
I was also caught by a pair of grey and blue eyes, which went from being mere slits to full-blown, panicked orbs. Shoto's mouth gaped slightly at me, but I managed to raise my right hand to give him a shaky thumbs up. I then pointed to IIda and Midoriya, making sure he noticed that they were incapacitated, as well.
'He would've seen Native as he came through the corridor,' I thought, biting my lip to suppress my cries of pain from moving. 'I can't have him worry about me while the other two are completely immobilised. I can at least still move, although it hurts...'
I locked eyes with my icy-hot friend, nodding my head in confirmation to go ahead. 'Do what you gotta do. I'll be with you.'
Shoto nodded as he sent out an ice attack form his right foot along the ground, saying, "So, I figured you were in trouble, and asking for help."
Stain leapt off the ground, narrowly avoiding Shoto's attack, but the ice also ended up securing Native, Midoriya, Iida and I against the walls, seeing as we couldn't move. Before, I was just hanging from the knives, my feet slightly off the ground. Now that I was being supported, the pain in my shoulder and arm had lessened. However, it didn't mean we were out of the woods, just yet.
"Everything's okay," Shoto said, reigniting his fire. "The Pros will be here any minute."
"Shoto, be careful!" I cried out, watching as he closed in on Stain, who managed to dodge once again. The fire came so close to Midoriya and Native, that they ended up melting out of their icy capsules. In fact, the intense heat caused all of the ice to melt away, including the ice around me. They slid down the ice and stopped behind Shoto, still unable to move, while I still hung up against the wall, my support being ripped away.
However, in those few short moments of reprieve, I'd managed to gain some strength back, making the pain more bearable where I hung from the knives. I sucked in a breath as my body started to strain against the blades, but shuffled again to try and dislodge them, and I felt the one in my shoulder loosen.
I paused my movements, hoping not to alert Stain of my small progress. 'If he realises I'm becoming free again, he could run away and we could lose him for good! ' No - we had to stop him here and now.
