My eardrums burst as Overhaul was sent flying, making everything go silent as the room fell into chaos. The pillars Overhaul had formed cracked apart; the walls and ceiling disintegrated; and the ground beneath my feet shook with a terrible tremor causing debris to fall around us. Someone spoke, but I didn't hear what they said. The force from Midoriya's attack kicked up a wind, raging so violently that it was all I could hear, feel, and sense.
I was too numb to react to anything, unable to find any strength in me to let go of Nighteye and bring up a shield. Suddenly, a shadow fell over me; giant, pearlescent wings slamming down in front of me as the wind raged on. Ryukyu. I ducked down with the others, hovering over Nighteye until I no longer felt the harsh sting of the wind in my hair and Ryukyu's giant shadow hanging over me.
"Hold on," Ryukyu said, her snout twisting every-which-way to assess our surroundings. "What happened?"
"Where's Deku?" Ochaco murmured, clambering to her feet.
Ryukyu opened up her wings, letting light wash over Tsu, Nighteye and I as we remained on the floor. The room looked to have been blown apart in every regard - like a hundred bombs had been set off at the same time. That kick... had that been Midoriya at his full strength? And Ocacho was right: where the hell was he?
A scuffle further ahead caught my attention. A figure rose from the rubble, staggering onto their feet as blood dripped from their head.
My breath hitched. "Overhaul." How the hell was he still okay after that? He'd practically gotten the full brunt of it, so how was he still standing?
The young yakuza head raised a shaky hand to clutch at his other arm, which was twisted and mangled in a truly disgusting manner. But with one touch, his arm broke apart; the cells and atoms of his body circling around before coming back together as a whole, good as new. It was like his arm had never been broken.
"I never told her what her power is, much less how to use it," he said, voice hoarse and exhausted. "Eri, naughty girl... You belong to me." He clambered his way over to the fallen giant Ryukyu had fell into the room with, not even attempting wipe the blood out of his eyes. "In order to realise the old man's greatest wish, I need you. Eri..."
"Not good," Ryukyu growled.
"We can't let him get back up," I said. "If he uses that henchmen like he did before, then there's no telling what-"
A tight grip on my fingers had me pausing, causing me to look down at a weary-eyed Nighteye. He was so pale now, but his golden irises shone through his dishevelled bangs, locking with mine with such resolve it scared me.
"You needn't worry," he rasped. "You four are safe, at least for the time being. He's not going to target any of us... He'll head to the surface, in pursuit of Midoriya and Eri. Then, he'll... kill Midoriya, and escape... I foresaw it."
Ochaco's face morphed into one of pure horror, turning on her heel towards Overhaul. "We can't let him-" She let out a breathless sound as she collapsed to the ground, her whole body trembling where she laid.
"Uravity!" I cried. My friend tried moving her arms, but I could feel how weak she was. I could feel how weak all of them were.
Ryukyu growled, standing up straight and stretching out her wings to their fullest extent. "We can't just sit here and do nothing!"
"Given the shape you are all in, you cannot stop him," Nighteye said, his eyes downcast and voids of light. "I'm sorry."
Tears streamed from my eyes as I shook my head vigorously, gripping onto Nighteye tighter. There was no way Midoriya could die, there just couldn't be...
