After the initial shock, we all wondered over to our mentors. Ochaco, Tsu and Hado went over to Ryukyu, Mr. Aizawa and a green-skinned, blue haired girl with a white top that barely covered her breath and a clear mask that covered her whole mouth. I was also surprised to see that Gran Torino was also standing with them, his bright, yellow costume standing out against Mr. Aizawa's black ensemble. Kirishima, Amajiki and I made our way over to Fat Gum, with Mirio and Midoriya in tow.
"Fat Gum, what's going on?" I asked on approach.
"Yeah," Kirishima said. "Why are there so many Pros in here? And why are we here, too?"
"So many heroes in one place..." Amajiki murmured, eyes glazed over as if he were in a trance. Suddenly, he flinched, turning back to face Fat Gum with a worried expression. "Has this got something to do with that new case you mentioned a few days ago?"
I quirked an eyebrow at that. New case? That was new.
Fat Gum nodded. "Sure is, Tamaki. We've had a new breakthrough."
Okay, now I was confused. "Um... so can someone explain what this new case is? I'm totally lost."
My mentor stared between Kirishima and I for a moment before face-palming himself. "Oh crap. I forgot to let you kiddos know, too. My bad. You see, we've been working alongside the police on this case, but we haven't had much to go off - just some inklings and unreliable sources. But now..."
"I get it," Kirishima said. "Some strong evidence or information has come through and now you have the means to pursue this case, right?"
"Correct."
"Fat Gum." My voice was soft and low, but it was loud enough that my mentor could hear me. Although they were covered by his thick, black mask, I could see his eyebrows furrow as he turned his attention me. "Fat Gum. Does this new case have something to do with the drugs we encountered the other night? The one that enhanced the villains quirk, and the other drug that took...took..."
Took Amajiki's quirk away.
Amajiki stiffened beside me, and I could feel his anxiety spike like crazy. I probably shouldn't have brought up that painful memory, but I had to know. The bad feeling I'd had for the past two days now weighed on me, and I just wanted some relief. Please prove me wrong, Fat gum. Please...
It was as if we were in our little world as silence descended around our little group. None of us said a word, didn't dare to speak what I could tell we all now felt. The impending dread surrounding not only us but the others frightened me.
After an eternity of silence, Fat Gum finally spoke, his voice low and void of any of his usual cheer. "It's not my place to disclose information regarding this case, L/N. But one thing that I can tell you is that you all will be needed if we are to succeed. Despite just being first years, you two have proven to me that you can be great heroes, and great assets when it comes to fighting. All will be explained, shortly. I promise."
Fat Gum locked eyes with me, his piercing stare almost saying: don't argue, just let it go. All I could do was nod, although what he'd said hadn't quelled my nerves one bit. Sparring glances at Kirishima and Amajiki, I could tell that they hadn't settled, either.
"Okay, here we go..." Fat Gum sighed, drawing my attention to the end of the room.
Standing there was the head of the agency we stood in: Nighteye. Standing either side of him was the snorkel-masked girl from before and a giant centipede wearing a suit fit for the 1800s of England. Wait, was that Centipeder? Awesome.
"We're all here, Nighteye," Ryukyu said. "Let's get started."
Nighteye took a step forward, giving Ryukyu a nod of acknowledgment before speaking. "Thanks to the information provided by all of you, our investigation has progressed substantially. We've invited you all here for a joint conference to share the intel we've acquired... regarding the yakuza group: Shie Hassaikai; and what we believe they might be planning."
