"You and I are settling this. Right here. Right now."
"Wait, what?!" Midroiya cried, raising his arms in a panic. "How is that the best way to work things out? No, this is bad. We're not even supposed to be at Ground Beta by ourselves. Why don't we talk about this during one of our free periods? We could reserve a training room or something. There's no reason we have to fight right now!"
Like Midoriya, every bone in my body was screaming at me to run away. To avoid this situation at all costs. And if not that, then at least stand up and stop them. But I couldn't, for the scene before was unfolding like a car crash. The moment I decided to sit and watch, I couldn't look away; and nor could I do anything to stop it from crashing and burning.
Bakugou's lips pulled up in a snarl. "If we fight for real at school, we'll be stopped. I wanna know why All Might gave his power to a loser like you. Let me see for myself..." His snarl dropped and his eyes grew distant, voice becoming soft as he spoke. "Is it because you looked up to him more than I did? And if that's the case... does it mean that everything I have done to be like him is wrong?"
"No, Kaachan..." Midoriya muttered, looking just as bewildered and heartbroken as I felt.
What I was seeing before me wasn't the confident and self-assured Bakugou I'd come to know and respect. Instead, in his place stood a sad, forlorn boy who resembled more of a kicked puppy dog - nothing like the Bakugou I knew. That anger and frustration was still there, but another emotion was rising inside of my ash-blond classmate: disappointment. In himself.
The two just stared off at each other for a moment longer, the intensity in the air growing to a suffocating thickness. It felt as if anyone moved, the whole world would crack in half. Looking at the two of them though, hearing what they were saying, I couldn't help but think that this fight - to Bakugou, at least - was worth the weight of the world.
My stomach dropped as I watched Bakugou begin to stretch his arms, warming up his muscles. Shit. He was really going to go through with this.
Midoriya took a few steps back, saying, "You really wanna do this?"
"If you don't wanna get hurt, punch back," Bakugou said. "Oh yeah, you switched to using kicks more these days, didn't you?"
"Come on, stop! This isn't smart-" Bakugou wasn't listening anymore, and instead blasted off towards Midoriya. "KAACHAN!"
Bakugou swung with a right hook, and I thought Midoriya would've blocked it. Instead, he waited too long, and Bakugou let off a massive explosion, sending the poor boy spiralling away.
Oh man, Bakugou was for real. And he was really going to hurt Midoriya or himself if he wasn't stopped now.
"Bakugou!" I cried, running from my hiding spot into the middle of the street. As much as I was terrified, I wasn't going to let my classmates - no, my friends - hurt each other. Not when I could do something.
"L/N?" Midoriya groaned from where he was crouched a few metres away, a trail of smoke rising in front of him.
That got Bakugou's attention; a shocked expression morphing onto his once irritated face as he turned towards me. "Lightbulb? What are you doing here?"
"I heard your conversation in the dorm, earlier," I answered, taking cautious steps towards the pair. "Something about it felt off, so I stayed awake and followed you here."
Both Midroiya's and Bakugou's faces paled significantly, eyes widening and mouths hanging slightly agape.
"How long have you been eavesdropping, damnit..." Bakugou muttered.
