It had been three days since that class, meaning that my hearing had returned to its fully functioning self, and that Midoriya had returned, too. His three days of house arrest was finally over, and boy was he eager to be back.
"Guys!" he announced as he stepped into class, green eyes flashing with determination. "I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused!"
Okay... maybe he was a little too eager.
"No sweat, Deku," Ochaco said, a bright smile on her face. "Thanks for all your hard work!"
"All he did was clean and vacuum," I muttered to Kyoka standing beside me, watching Midoriya's antics. "And what is with the steam nostrils?"
The green-haired boy suddenly dashed towards Iida's desk, which was currently occupied by Iida himself. "Class Rep! Iida! I'm sorry I disappointed you!"
"Right," Iida said, a nervous sweat forming on his brow. "I'm glad you learned from your mistakes. Follow the rules from now on."
With a single nod and more steaming nostrils, Midoriya suddenly dashed over to me, making me leap back in surprise.
"I'm sorry to you, too, L/N," he said, leaning in close to my face. "You got pulled into a matter you didn't need to. I'll make it up to you, I promise!"
"T-Thanks, Midoriya," I said, stepping away as I chuckled. "But you really don't have to. Just listen to Iida, and don't get into trouble again. Simple as that. No debt to be paid here."
The freckle-faced boy nodded, clenching his raised fist with wide eyes that almost seemed animalistic. "I'll catch up with everything I fell behind on these past three days!"
"That's the fighting spirit! Do it, man!" Kirishima chimed in, giving him a thumbs up.
All I could do was stare in complete disbelief. I'd never seen Midoriya look so wild before, and it was honestly the scariest thing I'd ever seen in my life. Scarier than Aoyama losing his sparkle, his twinkling - the mere thought of that was a travesty in itself.
Midoriya had been quite angsty after our first day of classes without him, itching to ask so many questions but knowing we wouldn't tell them. Midoriya had asked Iida about the work studies, but Iida had kept a tight lip on it all, and so did the rest of us. The teachers had made it very clear - particularly my caterpillar of a teacher - that we were not to tell anyone on house arrest what we were up to during school.
Turned out not only was their punishment to clean the entire dormitories, but also to sit and listen as their classmates talked about so many things they didn't understand. Poor Bakugou and Midoriya.
As I continued to stare, Shoto walked up to stand beside me, eyes also on Midoriya. "What's up with Midoriya?" he asked.
"It's better if you don't know," I whispered back.
"Right."
Suddenly, an icy chill rattled down my spine, freezing my body in place when I spotted a menacing-looking Mr. Aizawa looming over Midroiya like a grey cloud covering a green field. I gulped at the sight of the whites of his eyes being visible from how close he was.
"Time to take your seats everyone," my homeroom teacher said, the command and threat in his words not going unheard.
Immediately, my classmates and I sprinted to our seats, ripping our chairs out before swinging them back into sit upright at our desks - perfectly still and perfectly ready to listen to Mr. Aizawa. I swore we set new speed records every time we did it.
"Morning," Mr. Aizawa grumbled. "Now that Midoriya is back, we'll go into more detail about what the work studies entail." Mr. Aizawa switched his gaze to the door. "Go ahead, and come in."
