Part 81

Kim POV*

We get to Kev and Vanessa's, I use m key to open their front door. "I'll feed Blu, and get Kev clothes" Adam says letting Blu off the leash. I walk upstairs grabbing a couple onesies and the elephant blanket that Val loves. I walk to their bedroom pulling out the duffle bag putting everything they might need in it. I grab the duffle with both their clothes in it and the diaper bag. "Hey I just ordered the food we can pick it on the way there" he says putting his phone in his pocket. Adam grabs the bag and Blu's leash as we stop by his place to drop the Blu off with the neighbor. "Thanks again for doing this" he say handing over Blu to the girl that lives with her mom next door. "I need volunteer hours anyway" she says shutting the door.

Once we get to the hospital I grab the bag of food and Adam takes the duffle bag. We take the elevator to the PEDs floor. "What can I do for ya?" a nurse asks. "Were here to see Valentina Atwater" I say. She hands us visitor passes and walk us to her room. I knock on the door and Kevin opens it. You could see in his eye that he'd been crying, he takes the bags and puts them one a chair before walking out in to the hallway with us. "How is she?" Adam ask. "She's a fighter, She's still sedated and they gave a oxygen mask to help her breathe. They're worried about her heart, the pressure in her lungs is making her heart work harder than it should- " he says. "How are you and Vanessa?" I ask. "Vanessa finally fell asleep, she's really scared, I'm trying to be there for her, but I can barely keep it together myself. She's just so little all the wires an tubes around her-" he says. I wrap my arms around him and he just cries, the big tough guy is now vulnerable. "I feel so helpless ya know. My job as her father is to protect her and I couldn't even do that. I failed her Kim, I failed her" he says. "Look at me you can't think like that, You couldn't have know she was sick there were no symptom's until the babysitter caught it. You didn't fail her, you saved her, she's here, but she's not alone" I say. "Hey why don't we take our food and eat in the cafeteria." Adam say looking at me. "I'll stay, watch her" I say walk into the hospital room.

I walk in taking in everything in the room, Vanessa asleep in the chair, Val in the hospital crib sedated with wires all over her small chest. I sit in the chair opposite of Vanessa's and play random games I downloaded. "Kim?" I look up from my phone to see Vanessa awake. "Your up, Kev went with Adam to the cafeteria they'll be back" I say. "W-When do you get here? Where's Blu? Did I miss the doctor? Is She okay?" she asks getting up from the chair to walk the crib. "I got here 20 minutes ago, Blu is with Adams neighbor, the doctor hasn't come in but the nurse came by to check on her, Val is okay." I say walking over to her. "How did this happen...,we were careful about staying safe washing our hand, not picking her up on our work clothes. How the hell did this happen?" She says wiping her eyes, while she strokes  Valentina's hair back. " Kev said it was common in babies. I honestly don't know, but I'm right here for whatever." I say hugging her. "Thank you, for the clothes" she say grabbing the bag and walking to the bathroom attached to the room. 

She walks out in leggings and a hoodie. " I got you food" I say. " Thanks but I can't eat right now" she say pushing the bag away. "You have to eat, Nessa" I say. "My daughter is laying motionless and I can't even hold her, tell her that everything's going to be okay. You'd understand if you had a kid" she say. Her words hit me like a brick wall, I know she's just angry but that hurt more than she'll know. "Okay" I say getting up to go find Adam since it late. "Kim I'm sorry I didn't mean" she say tears in her eyes. "Your angry and I'm an easy target. I going to find the boys, stay here look out for your living daughter" I say. "Kim wait" she says now standing. "You know I love you guys" I say shutting the door.
