Part 72

Jay POV*

When Hailey and Kim left me Adam and Voight stay back to look for evidence and get statements. "Who found him" I asks a patrolman as he points to the homeless man. I walk over to asks questions. "Hey sir they said you found the body, I'd like to ask you a couple question" I say. "What time did you find the body" I ask. "at sunrise, I was looking for food and I saw him there" he says. "Did you see anyone walk anyway from the body or see what happened to him" O ask. "No I didn't see anything I just wanted some food" he say. "Okay" I say as we part ways. I look down and notice light tire track. I call over a crime to take pictures and test the residue.

After the scene is processed we all head back to the district. I'm walking up the stairs with Adam and Voight. We reach the top and I walk to my desk scamming through  pod footage and police reports of any robberies. "I got something" Vanessa says as were all surprised. "When did you get back from maternity leave you weren't at the scene" Adam asks. "They maternity leave is only three months  and I had a hard time leave Val with someone new so we were late. Anyway, I found out that there was armed robbery a block anyway from the crime scene and you can see two offender run toward the ally. I follow the footage and it stops here which is were this car was parked and you can see Richard getting in and then the two offenders after him." she says as I  step away from her desk to answer my phone.

"That was Hailey Katie said Bennett was out getting something for his kids. He called an Uber to get home" I say. "So Richard was never a target more like collateral damage" Kevin says. "They killed him so he would talk" Adam adds. "I ran plates on the vehicle we got a hit, a blue 2011 Mazda 360 registered to a Cheryl banks in Lake view" Vanessa says. "let hit it" Voight says as we get up to leave. "Rojas you stay" he says to her. "But Sarge I'm ready" she pleads. "Just ride the desk for a week that's all, okay" he says as we walk to the cars. I call Hailey and Kim let thing them know that where we'll be and to met us at the scene.

We get to the scene and old lady open the door. "Oh hello Ma'am were looking for a Devin smith" Kevin says. "Oh that's my grandson is he in trouble" she asks. "No Ma'am we just we just want to talk with him if that's okay" Hank says. The lady let us in to her house. " Devin!"  she yells as we hear foot steps. As soon as he spots us he runs out the back "Kim Adam he's coming your way" I say into the mic. "We got him" I hear Kim says.  We leave the lady's house and take him back to the district.

"Devin do you recognize this car" Vanessa says as we interrogate him. He just stares at the glass. "We found this car parked in your grandma's garage, you know how it got there" he still says nothing. "You know this man" showing him the picture of a dead Richard Bennett. The photo made him cringe a little as he turns his head. "Look at him Devin! You kill this man? He had kids, you realize that your going to prison for 2 degree murder and armed robbery" I say packing up the file. "I didn't kill nobody, it was Johnny" he says. "You ready to talk now?" she says sitting in one of the chairs. " I want a deal" he says. "We can work that out for you but tell us what you know"  say taking a seat in the other chair. "I was just the driver okay Johnny and Rob robbed the place, when I heard the shot Johnny open his door and the dude just fell out, I panicked and got the hell out of there" he says. "You know where Rob and Johnny live" Vanessa asks. "They something about a house on the east side" he says. "What their last name" I ask. "I don't know the post an ad about a driver for a job, it was good money so I took it. Before all this we met up at a diner by 43 street three days ago" he says. "we'll talk to someone about your deal, okay" I say opening the door as Vanessa and I walk out to the bullpen.
