The Secrets We Keep

Part 59

Amira POV* (December 14)

It 5:30 when I get up and dressed my light  blue jeans, a black sweater, and my snow boots. Then I put two waffles in the toaster and I walk to Auggie's room. " Auggie wake up"  I say shaking his shoulder. "Happy birthday Mira" He says sleepily walking into the bathroom. I never really liked my birthday, it's just another day to me. Dad used always joke that since my birthday is so close to Christmas that I get two more presents than Auggie.  When Auggie get out the bathroom he has on the cloth mom picked out a adidas black long sleeve shirt and matching sweatpants. We are eating breakfast when the door bell rings. I stick the last of my waffle in my mouth before answering the door. I open it and it's Hailey and Jay with stuff in their hands so I let them in. "Hey why are you guys here and good morning" I say still with food in my mouth. "Your mom said we could drop off the your Christmas gifts before you guys went to school" Jay says. "Hailey, Jay" Auggie says giving them both a hug. " Today's Mira's birthday and she gets more presents than me on Christmas" He say. "Auggie go pack your lunch" I tell him. "Happy birthday" Hailey says. "Um the tree's over there" I say walking to my room.

I get to my room and start packing my backpack. "you okay" Hailey says as I am still putting my books in my bag. "Yeah just don't like birthdays" I say. "Why" she asks. "Cause my dad died 10 days before it" I say walking out the room with backpack, keys, phone, and wallet in hand. " Auggie come on we gotta go" I say as Auggie walk out his room with all his books and worksheets in his hand. "my folder broke" he says about to cry. So I set my backpack down and grab the tape from out the drawer. "Look all fixed" I say putting the last bit of tape on is folder. I put my my coat, beanie and backpack on, then I put Auggie's hair in a bun and help him put his coat and backpack on.

 "We have to get going if we don't want to be late, I really don't know how to put this in a nice way but y'all have to leave the apartment." I say with a smile to to make up for the harsh words. " No it's okay we get it" Jay says. We all walk out the apartment after I text Mom to let her know that were leaving for school. "Are sure your okay, its pretty cold out here we could drive you to school" Hailey says. " My bus is only a block away and Mira walks another block to the city bus stop then she get off that bus and walks another block past the coffee shop to get to school." Auggie says. " August" I say hitting him. "What your the one who complains about how far you walk everyday after school" he says. " Come on if they drop us off we can get hot chocolate from the coffee shop. " Please Mira its cold" Auggie says with puppy dog eyes. " Okay but once then you have to get back on the bus tomorrow" I say getting into the back seat of Hailey and Jays car. 

We get  the coffee shop and I order me and Auggie two hot chocolate's, then I pull out my wallet to pay. " Hey we got it birthday girl." Jay say taking out his wallet to pay for the two hot chocolate's and the coffee's they ordered. "Thank you" I say as we grab our drinks and heading back to the car.  

Jay POV*

When we get to Auggie's school we have to park because there's snow in the drop off line. I get out the car and walk to Auggie's door and help him out while Amira and Hailey wait in the car. I hold his hand while we cross over to the school building. "Can you walk me to my class" Auggie says as I nod.  When get to his class and all the kids and parents are waiting at the door. "Whoa" I hear a little kid says. "Is that real" as girl says pointing to my gun as all the other kids turn around. "Don't you know that there are children in here" one mom says. I lift up my shirt and show here my CPD badge, then she turns back to her kid without saying anything. When the teacher arrives she open the door and all the kids go running in. I feel Auggie pull on my pant leg. "yeah" I say crouching down to his height level. "Thanks for making me look cool" he says walking in as all the kids crowd around him. I was about to leave when his teacher called my over. I walk over to her and she starts talking. "Is Auggie okay is there something I should know about" she asks. "No Auggie and his family are fine, I'm just friends with his mom it's his sister birthday so me and my girlfriend took them out for hot chocolate" I say. Then I walk back to the car.

Amira POV*

 They pull into the drop off line. "Thanks for the ride and the coco" I say getting out the car. "Have a good day Amira" I hear Hailey say, "Thanks" I say quietly before I shut the back door of the car. I walk into the school and I'm walking to my locker when I get stopped my the cool kids a.k.a the rich girls. "I saw you walk out of the coffee shop today with those cops" I hear Ashley say. "There just friends of my family." I say shutting my locker and walking to my homeroom class.
