Part 86

Jay POV*

It's been two days since the death of Annalise and we finally found the killer. Were all back at the district to bring Amira and Auggie to their social worker. As we walk into the district we are greeted by Platt. "Hey guys the social workers in there" Platt says pointing to the office in the corner. "Hi I'm Lola Wilder I'll be the Estevez kids social worker" she says reaching out her hand to shake. "Hi we're Jay and Hailey Halstead" I say as me and Hailey shake her hands. "Can you two wait on the bench for a few minutes" she asks Amira and Auggie. They look to Hailey and me, and we nod. They leave the room with Ry and she shuts the door behind us.

"Can we file for guardianship" I say. "Jay we have to talk about this first" Hailey looks at me. "I have the paperwork for temporary guardianship if you want but it's a waiting game it could take two weeks and go up to two months , so if you want this you should fill it out in the next week. Then we can talk about permanent guardianship." Wilder says handing us a folder with the papers inside it. "Where do they go now" Hailey asks. "There's a group home for sibling groups about an hour away from here that has room" she says. "Can we visit them" I ask. "Yeah here's the number for the person in charge and here's my card if you have anymore questions please call" handing us the cards. "If we choose to file for permanent guardianship how long dose the usually take" Hailey asks. "At the longest was a six months, but let's focus on temporary guardianship first" she say. "Thank you for this" I say motioning to the file in my hands. Hailey has more questions so we go over those until here a knock on the door.

Amira POV*

When the social worker shuts the door I pull out my phone to play games. I feel a light thug on my shirt, turn my head to see who it was. "What do you think they're talking about?" Auggie ask. "I don't know" I say lying through my teeth, knowing exactly who they're talking about. I knew what they were talking about, but I didn't want to scare Auggie. "Maybe it's about ice cream" Ryder says. "Or baseball" Auggie says. "Dinosaurs" Ryder say holding up his stuffed toy.

Hailey POV*

I open the door and it's Auggie. "How much longer" he asks. "I can step out if you'd like to talk to them private" she says taking her things and waiting outside. "Thanks I say before she walks out. "Amira, Ryder you can go in now" Wilder says. They take a seat on the two chairs in the office. "So we that was your social worker and she-". "What's a social worker" Auggie asks. "They are they people you call when a child does have a parent anymore" Jay says. "She is taking over your case and they found you a really nice home to stay in while until we figure stuff out" I say. "Why can't we stay at your house" he asks. "Because there's not enough space right now" Jay says getting eye level with him. "So where do we go now" Amira asks breaking her silence. "There's a group home an hour away from here, Ms. Wilder said we could visit you" I say trying not to cry. "I don't wanna go, I want to stay with you" Auggie says crying into Jays shoulder as he picks him up and hugs him. "We don't want you to go, but it's not up to us" I say wiping the tears from my eyes. "Amira you alright". "I can still call you" she says. "Yeah anytime you want" I say before the door opens.

"Sorry to interrupt we have to get your stuff ready at the home" Wilder says opening the door. "Um my bags still in their truck" Amira says. "It's okay they can walk you out" she says as we follow her out for the car. Jay puts their bags in the car and helps the social worker put in Auggie's car seat. "You gotta let go Auggie" Jay says. "N-no I want to stay with you" he says crying at the thought of leaving us. "Auggie, Amira is going with you, you'll have her" I says rubbing his arm. Finally he lets go of Jay and gets into the car. "Bye" Amira says quietly before getting in the car.

We watch as the car drives off and out of the parking lot. "You thing they'll be alright" I ask hugging Jays side. "I don't know Hails" he say taking my hand as the car leaves our sight. "Are you sure about this whole temporary custody thing" I ask looking up at him.
