Part 71

Hailey POV*

When we got home from last nights game we went straight to bed. The next morning we drop Ry off and head to a scene of a murder. "Great just what I wanna see before I 've had coffee" I say as Jay lift up the crime tape to show a boy maybe early twenties dead. "What do we got" Voight says walking up to the scene. " Our victim is Richard Bennett, white male, 23, his girlfriend reported him missing around 9 pm last night. His girlfriend lives up north with their 4 year old son, Maison Bennett" Kim says. "Hailey Kim go talk to her" he says. 

When we get to the girlfriend's house we knock on the door. "Hey you want coffee after this?" I Kim. "Yes, please, I didn't get much sleep last night" . "Oh" I say smirking at what she said. "No, not like that , I got home late paperwork" she says before the door opens and it's a 4 year old. "Hi what's your name" I ask. "Who are you" he asks.  " We're cops. Do you know who Katie Bryce is?" I ask as a woman walk out of a room in the apartment. "Maison I told you not to open door" she says as the little boys runs into a different room. "Sorry about that" she says. "It's okay my son does that sometimes" I say think back to one of the instances. "Hi are you Katie Bryce" Kim asks. "yeah whos asking" she says trying to read our expressions.

 " Hi I'm Officer Burgess and this is my partner Detective Upton, can we come in" Kim asks as Katie invites us in. "Did you find Richie he didn't come home last night, called the police. Did you find him" she says as we sit down on the couch. "Katie were really sorry but we found Richard in an ally on 7th avenue." I say as she starts crying. "Katie I know this is really hard but do you know of anyone that would want to hurt Richard" Kim asks. " No he was a good man a great dad he loved everyone, who would do this" she says. "Do you know where he was going last night" I ask. "he said he was getting a surprise for Mase and Mazie. He called me a at um 8 he told me he got an Uber to get back home. I should've picked him up" she says crying even more. "Mommy" the little boys says. "Who's Mazie" Kim asks. "Mazie is the baby in mommy's tummy" Maison says hugging his mom as she cry's softly.  "congrats" Kim and I say. "Thank you for your time Katie and sorry for your loss" Kim says as we let ourselves.

We get back to the car and tell Voight everything we have before heading to the coffee shop. "I'd don't know how she'll do it" Kim says starting the engine. "do what" I ask as she starts driving. "How she'll go on with her other half, they have kids together and just like that her whole world is gone. " she says as I wipe a single tear from my eyes thinking about garret. "Hailey I'm sorry I-" she says. "No it's okay yeah it's hard at first but she's strong she'll get through it and sometimes I see a little bit of Garret in Ry that apart of me still misses him. But when I'm happy and Ry's happy with Jay. Were good now" I say as she pulls into the coffee shop.
