The Secrets We Keep

Part 37

Vanessa POV*

The car is now silent after Hailey said that she was going to tell Voight about the baby if I didn't. Today is Friday that means that we are on our way to pick up Ryder from preschool. We get to the preschool and Hailey hops out the car. Ten minutes later she walks out the school with a sleeping Ry in her arms. The drive back to the district was quiet again. I walk out the car and right up the stairs. To my desk to start looking through pod footage from the scene. As we are sitting there working for what feels like forever but is really one hour Adam catches a big lead. He found the killer. Everyone gets up to grab our gear then head to the cars where well have patrol on stand-bye. I'm last to go down stairs along with Kim. "Hey can I ride with you I think Hailey's with Jay and Adam and Kevin are together." I say kind of struggling to put on my vest." Yeah come on" She says as we walk toward her car and get in.

We get to the scene and park a couple yard away in a dark ally we get out and walk to to the rest of the team and other Detective's to listen to Voight's plan. After Voight's done talking we get into position. I'm with Voight Adam, Jay, and another cop from the district. Then Adam grabs the battering ram and strikes the door with one hit as soon as the door open bullets are fly we take cover behind a couch. As I turn  around to fire my bullets. Out of nowhere someone from up stairs fires two rounds and one hits my vest and  the other grazes my forearm "ah dammit" I say. Then I hear Hailey yell "offender down, flowed by Voight yelling the same thing. The team clears the house while I walk outside. I just sit on the curb taking everything that just happened  in. I take off my vest and lift up my sweater to reveal a nasty  purple and blue buries on my chest. " Vanessa are you with me" Kim says. "Yeah sorry what'd you say" I say wiping the tear off my face." I said your bleed and the paramedics are here" she says. I get up and walk over to the paramedics with Kim. The medics give me an ice pack for my chest. Then decide that I need stitches for my grazed should so I hop in the ambulance. " Hey Rojas, I'll meet you there" Kim says as she walk back to the car. " We get to the hospital  and to a room.  As I'm waiting for the doctor, a nurse comes Ramirez I think. " Hi Vanessa I'm just here to draw some blood anything else we should know about before the doctor comes in." she says. " Yeah... I'm ..um pregnant 20 weeks" I say as I watch her facial expression change. "Okay I'll tell her that and request an ultrasound." Then she walks out with my blood work. 

A few minutes later I here a knock on my door, "come in". I see Hailey  walk in and say "What the hell V you could've died. What were you thinking?!" she says. Then the doctor come into the room. "Natalie" I say confused. " Hey Hailey and Vanessa, I'm sorry they paged me for an ultrasound not stitches, but I'll stitch you up" she says  turning around and bringing the ultrasound with her. " Wait Nat, I'm .... um pregnant" I say. " Oh okay sorry well then lift up your shirt" she says walking back. "That's a nasty buries you got there. How'd get it?" she asks. " A bullet hit my vest in a shoot out." i say.  She waves the wand around my stomach then it heart beat fills the room. " There's your baby do you want to know the sex" she says. " No I'll wait" I say, she hands me a blue rag to wipe off the gel. Then she walk around to my right side to stitch me up. The when she finishes giving my stitches. I stand up, grab my jacket, and hops off the table to leave. " hey Vanessa you need to come back in 12 days to get your stitches removed and follow up with your OB for an appointment." she says. " Okay" I reply.  And Vanessa you need to tell your Sargent you can't be in the field anymore" she adds. Hailey already left so I walk out to Kim and she give me a ride back to the district.

The car ride is mostly quiet, I mean you can hear the city noises and see the lights flashing. 'So what did the doc say" Kim ask. I turn my head towards her, " Hey can I tell you something, but I don't know how you'll react." I say. " Yeah what is it." she say not looking away from the road ahead. " I'm... you know what never mind it's nothing". I say turn my head to the other side. "You don't have to tell me just know that I got your back whatever it is." she say taking one of her hand of the wheel and placing it on my leg. We get to the district and I head straight to the lockeroom.   When I get back from the lockeroom with my bag un hand. I go to my desk to look for my phone. I once i find it I see a bunch of angry texts from Hailey, and one from Voight but the one I look at is Kev's. It reads, Hey V sorry I couldn't come to the hospital Voight wanted me to stay back but I hoping you could come over tonight for a dinner and your favorite movie -Kev. I look up to see Kev looking at me I give him a nod. Then Voight comes out of his office. " Hey Rojas you okay" he ask. " Yeah I'm good" I say. " Well we caught the offender so everyone go home and don't come back till 10 am you all look tired" he say before going back to his office.

Hope y'all like this chapter even thought it's not about Hailey and Jay.
