TW: Brief mentions of suicidal thoughts

If you suffer from depression or have suicidal thoughts, please remember you are not alone. That you are valid, you are loved.

Over the course of the next two weeks, a lot of things had changed. Harry and Ginny had gotten together. Desiree heard that from Ginny and Hermione because she still wasn't talking to Harry after what happened at the party. Desiree and Draco couldn't even look at each other anymore. When in class, they sat as far as they could from each other. With each day that passed, Draco looked as though he grew more melancholy.

The truth was that night after the Gryffindor victory party was really wearing on them. Desiree felt much more stressed in the past days. If she was being honest with herself, she felt like she had gone through their break up all over again. The sound of his sobs and his fists connecting with the walls were etched in her mind. It would replay every time she saw him. She even stopped wearing his promise ring.

"Desiree? Desiree!" Hermione waved her hands in front of Desiree's face.

"What?" asked Desiree, quickly snapping back into focus. The two were eating dinner together after taking their last exam of the year. Pansy was off somewhere with Blaise.

"Are you alright? You usually only stay in your thoughts when you're dealing with something," asked Hermione.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Desiree nodded.

"You're not still upset about the whole Harry thing, are you? Look, I know he shouldn't have said that. I mean, I would have reacted the same way. But, you shouldn't let it affect you like this," said Hermione.

"It's not just that, Hermione. That night, after I left the party, I ran into Draco in the common room, and we basically ended things for good," Desiree met Hermione's eyes.

"Oh, Desiree, I'm sorry," Hermione said in a sympathetic tone. "Tell you what, how about you and me, maybe Ginny if we can find her, have a girls night. We can go completely all out in self-care."

Though Desiree planned on spending the day reading in her room, she couldn't find a reason why she shouldn't spend the day with Ginny and Hermione. "Yeah, why not?"

"Excellent! Okay, why don't you go get that face mask you're always raving about and meet me outside the common room?" Hermione stood with a wide smile on her face. She was clearly excited to have a girl's day since she spent most of her time hanging out with Harry and Ron.

"I'll meet you up there," Desiree grinned before walking out of the Great Hall.

With this, Desiree made her way back down to the dungeons, quickly walking through the Slytherin common room and into her room. She quickly grabbed her favorite face mask that her mother picked up for her on one of her parents' many conquests. She changed into a comfier outfit, consisting of a pair of leggings and a random jumper she found in her wardrobe.

Just as she was about to walk out of her room, something caught her eye. It was a letter. Desiree looked around her empty room and just outside of the door, down the corridor as if to see if there were any indication on how it got there. But then, she saw the familiar handwriting she had spent hours looking at. It was his. Her name was scratched on the outside of the envelope in his neat handwriting. Her hands quickly fumbled with the envelope to read the letter, which read:

Desiree,

I have and always will love you. I cannot take back what I have done. I cannot apologize enough for not being the man you needed. I will forever cherish your smile, the way your forehead crinkled when you were studying, our nights looking at the stars, and the way your laugh sounded like a symphony of violins. But most of all, I'll forever cherish what I had with you. I loved everything about you and still do. That's why I hope you can forgive me for what I am about to do. I want you to remember the happy memories we shared. For that brings me peace in the overwhelming darkness.
