Another two weeks had passed since Desiree spoke to Draco. It took days for her to even be able to look at him without growing angry. But after the anger settled she was left with the deep pit in her stomach. What if she actually pushed him away this time?
The only thing that puzzled her if she had actually managed to push him away was why he hadn't gone to Umbridge about the D. A.? It had been two weeks since he found out Desiree was in it, he knew she was going to one yet didn't tell Umbridge, why?
"Desiree? Desiree!" Hermione snapped her fingers.
"Huh? What? Sorry," she refocused on their conversation in the Great Hall.
"Are you alright? You've been zoning out a lot lately," said Hermione.
"Yeah, fine," she quickly took a sip of her Pumpkin juice.
"You've been acting weird ever since that night you showed up to the meeting crying," said Ron.
"Ron, I said I was fine," her tone came out a little colder than she meant for it to. Ron turned his attention back to Harry and started a conversation of his own.
"Desiree, what happened that night?" asked Hermione, her voice just quiet enough for Desiree to hear.
"Draco and I got into an argument about him joining the High Inquisitorial squad. We haven't spoken since then," said Desiree, her eyes slowly falling on Draco, who was sitting at the Slytherin table alone, playing with his food.
"I can't imagine it was that bad," said Hermione, her hand gently touched Desiree's back.
"Hermione it was bad. He couldn't even look me in the eye," said Desiree, looking back to Hermione.
"As much as I absolutely cannot stand him I know he'll come around. Desiree he's going to come back, it's you we're talking about," said Hermione.
"That's just it Hermione, I don't think he will," said Desiree.
"Desiree, you haven't seen the way he looks at you when you're looking the opposite way. Anyone with a pair of eyes can see that he's absolutely crazy about you," said Hermione.
"Hermione I told him that he was pushing me away," she could feel a lump forming in her throat. The fear of him being gone frightened her down to her core.
"Just stop worrying about it. Everything will work out in the end," said Hermione, rubbing her hand on Desiree's back.
"Yeah, you're right. There's no point in worrying when it's out of my control. He knows what he needs to do if he doesn't want to lose me," said Desiree, nodding her head.
"That's the spirit now come on, we have a lot of Potions work to do before the meeting," Hermione pulled Desiree from the table and up to the library.
Sure enough, after hours of writing up sheets of parchment and a throbbing hand later, it was time for the last D. A. meeting of term. Desiree wanted to tell Hermione that Draco knew about the D. A. badly, but she knew it would probably be better to tell her over Christmas Holiday.
So now, she sat, waiting for the meeting to start. She was excited for today's meeting. They were supposed to be using stunning spells on each other. Stunning had become one of Desiree's strong suits in the few meetings they had. Now, she was ready to go against an opponent, in fact, she was eager to.
"Alright, it looks like that's everyone," said Harry, scanning the room with his eyes to ensure everyone was there. "So, who's ready to get started?"
A wave of excited cheers and applause broke out over the children before Harry walked back to the end of the room.
"Stunning is one of the most useful spells in your arsenal. It's sort of a wizard's bread and butter, really. So um, come on then Desiree. Give me your best shot," said Harry waving her over to the center of the aisle the members of the D. A. formed. Though, Harry was known for being quite well at stunning and disarming, this only made Desiree more eager to go. She looked to her right to see Fred and George whispering to each other, clearly making a bet on who they thought would win.
