"Pansy I thought you were supposed to go home for Christmas again." said Desiree, walking down to the great hall for Christmas morning breakfast.

"My parents decided to go see my grandparents for Christmas this year and I told them I wanted to stay here." said Pansy, sitting down at the Slytherin table.

"Why'd you want to stay here?" asked Desiree.

"Well they way you talk about how much fun you have every year here on Christmas I just had to see what all the fuss was about." said Pansy.

"Pansy? What are you doing here?" asked Draco as he sat down next to Desiree.

"Do you two not want me here or something?" laughed Pansy.

"No we love that you're here it's just different. A good different." said Desiree.

"Alright then. What's the first thing you usually do?" asked Pansy.

"Well last year we played in the snow but with Sirius Black roaming around close to Hogwarts that's probably not the best idea." said Desiree.

"What are we going to do then?" asked Pansy.

"Well we could always go ahead and open gifts." said Draco.

"Yeah that sounds good." said Desiree.

After the three friends finished their breakfast then went back down to the Slytherin common room. Once in they all went to their rooms and grabbed their gifts to bring them to the common room. Desiree opened a few gifts from her parents which included the usual bundle of clothes and one of the books she had asked them for. Now she opened a small parcel from Hermione. It was a book they had been talking about just a few weeks before.

"Wow." said Desiree as she examined the small book.

"What is it?" asked Pansy.

"It's a muggle book Hermione was telling me about, quite famous according to her." said Desiree.

Draco read the title, "A Christmas Carol. Isn't it a little late to be given that? I mean it is Christmas already."

"Not if I read it tonight." Desiree smiled.

"What so you're going to leave us by ourselves so you can read?" asked Pansy.

"I can always read it to you. I mean we already started opening our gifts, there isn't much else to do until dinner." said Desiree.

"I suppose that sounds nice. What about you Draco?" asked Pansy.

"I guess if there's nothing else to do." said Draco.

"Alright back to opening out gifts." said Desiree. Just as the three children were about to return all of their opened gifts to their rooms Draco stopped Desiree.

"Desiree it looks like you have one more." said Draco.

"Oh I must have missed it." she said as she grabbed the small gift from his hands. Desiree opened the small gift box to find a charm meant for her bracelet in the shape of a small citrine colored heart.

"Wow it's beautiful! Who's it from?" asked Pansy.

"I don't know. Oh wait, here's the note." said Desiree.

I couldn't help but add to your's and Pansy's little tradition. I hope you like it.

- Cedric

Desiree smiled as she looked at the note then back to the charm. "I told him about our tradition after he noticed the snake you got me last year." said Desiree, looking to Pansy.

"It's really pretty. I wonder if it's a real gemstone. Oh wait but now our bracelets will be out of balance. Mine will have three while yours has four." said Pansy.

"I'm sure Blaise will get you one at some point." Desiree laughed.

"I don't know what you're talking about." said Pansy.

"You forget you already told me you fancied him." said Desiree. "Hey where'd Draco go?"

"I don't know. I guess he left after you opened the gift from Cedric." said Pansy.

Later in the evening after dinner the three children gathered in the common room once more. This time for the reading of the muggle book Desiree was gifted.

"Draco you never told us where you went earlier. You just disappeared from the common room." said Desiree.

"I just went to put my stuff away." said Draco with an attitude.

"Alright, alright you don't have to be rude about it." said Desiree.

"Why don't we just start with the book." said Pansy, clearly trying to change the subject.

As Desiree finished The Christmas Carol she looked over to find Pansy asleep on the couch.

"At least we finished the book." Draco laughed.

"For a moment there it almost looked as though you were enjoying it." said Desiree, a slight smile began to grow on her face.

"Me? Like books? Please, I'm not you." said Draco.

"Whatever you say." laughed Desiree. "I should probably get her up to our room now."

"Do you need help?" asked Draco.

"I think I got it." Desiree turned to Pansy, "Pansy it's time to go to bed."

Pansy woke up almost immediately, still clearly half asleep. "Is it over?"

"Yeah it's over. Come on." said Desiree, guiding her to the stairs. As the two girls were about to go down up the stairs Desiree turned to Draco. "Oh and Draco."

Draco turned, "Yes Desiree?"

"Happy Christmas." she said before turning back to Pansy.

"Happy Christmas." Draco called out after them.

Just as Desiree managed to get Pansy into her own bed she found a parcel sitting on her bed. She opened it to find a book she had never seen before with a note written in the front cover.

I read this and immediately thought you would like it.

"Pansy I'll be right back." she whispered.

Desiree quietly made her way up to the common room. Just as she was about to turn the corner she saw Draco still sitting on one of the couches. Only this time he was reading. Desire then looked closer to the book and realized it wasn't the one she had just read to him but a different one, one of his own. Desiree smiled as she looked to the blonde boy reading silently on the couch. She then quietly turned around and went back to her room. Leaving Draco to read in the common room on that cold winter's night.
