Desiree now sat in the great hall with Pansy, Blaise, and Draco.

"Can you all believe Christmas is next week?" asked Desiree almost in awe.

"Speaking of Christmas, are you staying here again Desiree?" asked Draco.

"Yes I am. Why do you ask?" asked Desiree.

"Well, I decided to stay this year. So I was just wondering if you were going to be here as well." said Draco.

"Oh, alright." Desiree said as she began to scan the great hall. She locked eyes with Cedric and smiled.

"Desiree are you with us?" Pansy said snapping her fingers.

"What? Sorry." asked Desiree.

"I asked if you're going to the dueling club later." Pansy giggled as she saw what Desiree was looking at.

"Oh, right. Well I am. Let's just hope no one's bones disappear." Desiree laughed.

The three others laughed. "That was a good one." said Blaise.

"Pansy come on. I want to get a good spot." Desiree said from the bottom of the common room stairs.

Pansy peered around the corner of the stairs, "Who are you and what have you done with Desiree?"

"Whatever do you mean?" asked Desiree confused.

"Well it just seems like you are the one rushing me this time. I'm usually the one rushing you." Pansy said as she met Desiree at the bottom of the stairs.

"I just want to get their early. Dueling seems like such an interesting subject, doesn't it?" said Desiree as she grabbed Pansy's arm.

"Maybe for you. You can pick up on anything you try." said Pansy.

"Oh come off of it. Pansy you are an amazing witch. I'm sure you're going to do great." Desiree smiled.

The pair walked into the great hall where they met up with Draco and Blaise.

"Gather round. Gather round." Lockhart yelled as he walked on the table. "Can everybody see me? Can you all hear me? Excellent. In light of the dark events of recent weeks, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little dueling club to train you all up in case you ever need to defend yourselves, as I myself have done on countless occasions. For full details, see my published works." he smiled.

"Oh please, he can't even stop a group of pixies." whispered Desiree as she rolled her eyes.

"Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape." said Lockhart. "He has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration. Now, I don't want any of you youngsters to worry. You'll still have your potions master when I'm through with him. Never fear."

Snape and Lockhart walked up to each other. They gave a small bow, then turned to walk the opposite direction. They then stood in a ready stance.

"One. Two. Three." said Lockhart.

Snape shouted, "Expelliarmus!". This sent Lockhart flying backward.

Desiree and almost everyone in the great hall couldn't help but laugh.

"An excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don't mind me saying, it was pretty obvious at what you were about to do, and if I had wanted to stop you, it would have been only too easy." remarked Lockhart.

"Perhaps it would be prudent to first teach the students to block unfriendly spells, professor." said Snape.

"An excellent suggestion, Professor Snape!" Lockhart smiled, "Uh, let's have a volunteer pair. Potter, Weasley, how about you?"

Snape objected to this, "Weasley's wand causes devastation with the simplest spells. We'll be sending Potter to the hospital wing in a matchbox. Might I suggest someone from my own house?" Snape held open his arms, "Malfoy perhaps?"

Harry and Draco both stepped up to the table, each giving a bow before turning and walking the opposite direction from each other.

Lockhart began, "Wands at the ready. On the count of three cast your charms to disarm your opponent. Only to disarm! We don't want any accidents here. One. Two."

"Everte Statum!" yelled Draco, before Lockhart could even say three. This sent Harry flying backwards much like Lockhart.

"Rictusempra!" Harry yelled just as he stood back up. This spell sent Draco flying all the way to where Snape stood.

"They're going to tear each other apart." Desiree whispered to Pansy.

Lockhart yelled, "I said disarm only!"

"Serpensortia!" shouted Draco. This made a serpent emerged from Draco's wand and onto the table.

"Don't move, Potter. I'll get rid of it for you." said Professor Snape.

"Allow me, Professor Snape!" said Lockhart proudly. "Alarte Ascendare!" This spell merely made the serpent fly into the air and back down onto the table.

The serpent began to slither towards Justin Finch-Fletchley, a hufflepuff in the same year as Desiree.

"Leave him alone." Harry and Desiree said at the same time.

Everyone's attention was brought to the two of them.

"Vipera Evanesca." Snape said as cast a spell that destroyed the serpent.

"What do you two think you're playing at?" said Justin in fear.

Desiree grew very confused as to what he meant by that. All eyes fell on Desiree and Harry. Silence filled the room.

"Come on. We need to go." Pansy said pulling Desiree's arm.

They were completely silent until they made it to the Slytherin common room.

"Why didn't you tell us you were a Parselmouth?" asked Pansy.

"Maybe because I'm not." Desiree said confused.

"Yes you are." said Blaise as he walked around the couch.

"I most certainly am not. What are you two talking about?" asked Desiree.

"Desiree, you and Pottah just spoke in Parseltounge. That's why everyone was looking at the two of you." said Draco.

"Really? I had no idea." said Desiree in awe as she sat down on the couch.

"What were you two saying anyway?" asked Pansy.

"We were telling it to stop going after Justin." said Desiree looking to the three of her friends.

"You know people are going to start believing that you're the heir of Slytherin right?" said Draco.

"Oh please, they will not." said Desiree in a dismissive tone.

"Desiree I think he's right. Just think about it, you come from a long line of Slytherin's and you're a Parselmouth." said Pansy.

"I'm not the heir of Slytherin." Desiree said as she slightly raised her voice.

"Okay we believe you. We're just telling you what people are going to think." said Blaise.
