It had been about two months since Desiree had seen her friends. She wrote letters to them often, the only ones that really wrote back were Pansy, Hermione, and Cedric. Draco had responded to a few letters but not as much as the others. Harry and Ron wrote back more than Draco but still not comparable to Pansy, Hermione, or Cedric.
"Desiree the carriages are waiting, are you ready?" her mother asked as she stepped into the room. Tonight was the big party at the Malfoy's again.
"Yes mother." she smiled, standing up from the chair that sat at her desk. Her short black dress fell to perfectly sit on her newly developed, almost fourteen year old body. Over the summer Desiree had seemed to grow quite different than she was when she left Hogwarts.
The Alcyone family made their way down to their carriage, beginning their journey to Malfoy Manor. The journey was quicker than expected, much like last year. Desiree was the last to step out of the carriage before her family continued to the door of Malfoy Manor.
"Ah the Alcyone's, how lovely to see you all." said Lucius, walking over with open arms.
"It's a pleasure for you to have us again." said Desiree's father as he shook Lucius' hand.
"Draco is right through that door with my wife if you would like to go see him." Lucius smiled to Desiree.
Desiree quickly walked through the door that led to the same room Desiree found Draco sitting in last year. Draco now sat on the same couch, this time next to his mother.
"Oh, Desiree dear it's so nice to see you." Narcissa smiled before hugging Desiree, "Draco was just telling me about your crazy adventures last year."
"They were quite crazy." laughed Desiree.
"Where's your mother? I would like to speak with her." asked Narcissa.
"She's just through there with my father and Mr. Malfoy." said Desiree, pointing to the door in which she had just entered through.
"Alright well, I'll leave you two to it then." Narcissa smiled before walking away.
Desiree then walked around to the couch where Draco sat. Draco's eyes seemed to grow large for a second before he relaxed them after realizing he let his expression show.
Desiree laughed, "What's with you."
"Nothing." Draco shook his head.
"Well it's obviously something." said Desiree, giving out a small chuckle.
"It's nothing. You look nice tonight." said Draco, looking down at the ground as he played with his feet.
"Why thank you." Desiree smiled before she sat down.
"Pansy and Blaise should be arriving soon." said Draco.
"You invited Blaise's family this year?" asked Desiree.
"Well I thought it would be nice to invite them especially with us being friends with Blaise and all. And well, the Zabini family is another successful family. At least that's what convinced my father." said Draco.
"Are you two talking about me?" said Pansy, peering around the door as she smiled.
"Pansy!" Desiree said excitedly, running over to her, she to had seemed to change over the summer.
"Oh I've missed you." said Pansy, hugging Desiree.
"I missed you to." smiled Desiree.
"And what about me?" asked Draco.
Desiree and Pansy both looked back to Draco, who was still sitting on the couch, and playfully rolled their eyes. "I suppose." said Pansy, jokingly.
"The disrespect, and in my own home." said Draco sarcastically.
"I hear Draco making sure he's the center of attention." said Blaise, smiling as he peered around the door.
"Blaise!" Pansy and Desiree shouted excitedly in unison.
"This is unbelievable. I invite all of you and you gang up on me." said Draco now standing with a slight smirk.
"Oh calm down we're only joking." laughed Desiree.
"Children, it's time for dinner." said Narcissa as she opened the door.
The four children walked through the grand entrance hall of the manor, into the dining room. They were put at the end of the table, away from the adults. Desiree didn't mind, she liked that she was able to talk with her friends without all of the adults hearing.
"So Desiree, have you been talking to Cedric?" asked Pansy quietly while Blaise and Draco were off in their own conversation.
"We've been writing each other about once a week." smiled Desiree.
"Really? That's great." said Pansy excitedly.
"Yeah I suppose it is." Desiree smiled even more.
"You're blushing." smiled Pansy.
"Oh come off of it, I am not." said Desiree trying to change the subject.
"Yes you are." said Pansy. "Blaise isn't Desiree blushing?"
"What are we talking about?" asked Blasie, turning his head to face Desiree and Pansy.
"Pansy stop." said Desiree, sternly.
"Oh fine, but you know I'm right." Pansy said pointing her finger to Desiree.
"I'm still lost." said Blaise.
"We were just talking about Desiree and Cedric writing to each other over the summer." said Pansy.
"I see you two have made an effort to talk to each other more." said Blaise, matter-of-factly.
"I don't see why?" Draco whispered under his breath.
"What was that?" asked Desiree.
"Nothing, carry on." said Draco.
The rest of the night carried on much like it did the previous year. The group of friends finished dinner, talked for hours, and danced. This year Pansy and Blaise seemed to stick together while dancing, leaving Desiree and Draco to dance together for most of the night. Desiree didn't have a problem with this, Draco was quite a good dancer and Draco didn't seem to have a problem with it either.
The next morning Desiree awoke to the smell of her favorite breakfast, french toast. She ran downstairs to find her mother in the kitchen, along with their free house elf, Pixie. Pixie worked for the Alcyone family freely for years, she was never forced to do work by Desiree's family, they merely liked her company, especially Desiree.
"Oh there you are. Pixie and I were beginning to think you were slipped a sleeping potion at the party." her mother smiled.
"Hi Pixie," Desiree waved, "I guess I was really tired."
"Well we have some french toast for you. It was Pixie's idea." said Desiree's mother.
"Thank you Pixie!" said Desiree, hugging the small house elf.
"Anything to make you happy." said Pixie in her squeaky voice.
"Oh dear, I almost forgot to give you this. It appears you've gotten another letter from Cedric." Desiree's mother said handing her a letter. "Seems like you two enjoy each other's company." she said with a wink.
"I suppose we do." smiled Desiree.
