The first day Aaron arrived to Life Academy, he noticed something odd that most people wouldn't; The scents.

Everybody has their own scent, which, as a wolf hybrid, Aaron can pick out easily. The only thing was that most people shared similar scents.

Now, had it been 5 or 6 people that had similar scents, Aaron would have been okay. They might have known each other before school and their scents rubbed off onto one another.

No. Of course the entire school had to share familiar scents. 7 types. Well 6, since he soon discovered that some people didn't have a scent, which freaked him the hell out. After all, everything has a scent. (Except Psychic Runes apparently)

Plus, with his luck, he was the only hybrid at the school out of all four years, meaning he couldn't go and ask someone else, 'what the hell is wrong with this place and why does everyone have similar scents???'

Then he ran into Ryan, and that 7 turned into an 8, and every instincts told him to hide. After all, what normal person smells mostly of smoke?

A person who wields the Fire Runes, he soon discovered. Didn't help Ryan and his relationship much, he will admit, considering that he found out fighting the damn dork.

So when he caught a whiff of that familiar smoke scent during the night after Ryan and Slade went through the portal, he was relieved. (Much to his annoyance).

At the time, he didn't think much of the slight undertone of lake water.

When he woke up and finally registered it was another story. Aaron swore that if Ryan managed to get a third tune in some turn of convoluted events, he would scream.

Sadly, Aaron had to wait to ask, since the damn dork for the first time in his life decided to get some sleep.

Of course with the competition going on, classes weren't mandatory (for some unknown reason many kids wanted to continue it, so lots of teachers were reviewing the work they've done), meaning he could take a nice walk through the woods and catch up on his little bird friends.

Luckily, on the way there, Aaron managed to run into Ryan, who had a blue lizard chilling on him, which explained the lake smell and saved his throat from an unneeded scream!

They parted ways, Ryan with a probably bruising shoulder due to a punch, and Aaron with emotions he did not want. One being relief.

Aaron's walk, which was supposed to be that, ended up as a run through the woods in his wolf form as several birds clawed happily as they hung onto him. Should he save energy for the competition? Yes. Did he care? No.

Then a crashing of sticks and leaves pierced his hearing as the smell of smoke flooded his nose. Smoke and lake water.

Aaron could already tell something was wrong.

Finding the idiot unconscious wasn't too much of a surprise, which, now that he thought about it, should be concerning.

Finding the 'lizard' all puffed up and wings spread was a surprise. The ravens, much to his displeasure, quickly fled away from the angry...dragon?

Aaron shook his head. He could focus on that later, and check up on Ryan first. God, last year him would be repulsed by the entirety of this year.

Morphing back to his human form did  help the dragon not look like it was three seconds of attacking him, only 10 second away.  Honestly though, Aaron did look like a large wolf, a well known predator.

"Hey little one..."Aaron crouched down, offering his hand out. "How about you not tear my eyes out and let me check on the idiot underneath you, eh?"

He got a warning growl back, lovely.

"I don't have much time idiot. Considering the fact that Ryan teleported all the way out here, he had to be pretty panicked about something. Let me make sure the dork didn't hurt himself."

The dragon (what the fuck Ryan???) tilted their head, before trotting up to him. The brat.

"Thanks." He drawled out, before turning to the dork. "Oi, idiot. You okay?"

No response, Aaron wasn't shocked.

A quick look over showed that luckily, Ryan didn't get hurt. It also brought out a glaring issue, how was he going to drag him back to get actually medical care?

God damn it. He was going to have to stay here until Ryan woke up, huh?
