Chapter 19

P.O.V/ Kim Austin:

Losing consciousness can be scary because it's like your brain has a blackout and you wake up either in the same place or in my case in the nurse's office.. I feel myself coming to as I slowly open my eyes blinking to regain my vision. I see the nurse and my mom who doesn't look too happy. I groan as I raise up, I said as I held my head " What happened?" Mom said " You had a nosebleed and fainted but from eye witnesses they say you were fighting with a girl named Mandi Vaughn". I feel guilty as I look at my mom with her upset expression. The Nurse said to me " Kim do you feel lightheaded? dizzy or a fast heart rate?" I said " A little lightheaded". The nurse takes a wet rag and wipes the rest of the remaining blood off my nose. She turns around and picks up a small white cup. She said " Take this Tylenol for the headache". I take the cup and pour the pills in my mouth as the nurse hands me a clear off of water. I swallow the two pills and hand the cup back to the nurse. She said quietly to my mom " If these episodes continue I'd suggest you take her to a neurologist". Mom gets a worried look and said " Why? she just had a nosebleed". The Nurse said quietly to my mom " She didn't just have a nosebleed Mrs. Austin. It was followed by headaches, and the nosebleeds could cause her to faint with how much blood she was losing. the fainting can also be called blacking out it could do some damage to her brain if not monitored". Mom gives me a stern look and the nurse sees this. She said to her " Did she not tell you about this?" Mom said " No this is the first I've heard". The Nurse said " I apologize her friend told me about the nosebleeds I assumed you already knew". There is a knock at the door and it's a female secretary. She said " Mr. Toller wanted me to give this to Mrs. Austin for Kim". She hands Mom a white paper and walks out. Mom reads the paper and said to me " Looks like you've earned yourself four days of out of school suspension". The Nurse walks out to give us sometime alone she closes the door. Mom runs her fingers through her brown hair. I said " I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the nosebleeds I thought they would go away". Mom said " Well you should have with the amount of blood pouring out of your nose. You could have drowned in your own blood if it wasn't for Jane and Kelly leaning you forward after you passed out". I feel tears running down my face she is pretty upset. She said with sarcasm " So why were you fighting this time? did this Mandi girl just say something that pushed your buttons? Or did she mess with one of your friends?" I can't tell her why I punched Mandi because she was messing with Kelly to piss me off because she's her ex. I said " She called me a whore is what happened". Mom said " What is it with you girls calling each other sluts and whores these days?" I said " No girl likes to be called that". Mom said " The witnesses said you threw the first punch". There was a lot of people in the parking lot. I'm getting annoyed, I said with a sarcastic tone " First off she pushed me first". Mom shoots back with a sarcastic tone " First off watch that tone with me Kimberly Ann". I feel my head starting to hurt so I just shut up. We walk out of the nurse's office and through the office where Mom signs me out. We walk out of the office and through the lobby. As we pass by the third floor hallway I spot Kelly walking back from the girls bathroom. I give her a dirty look because I'm upset that she told my mom about the nosebleeds. We walk out the doors and down the sidewalk that leads down into the courtyard. Mom hasn't said a word to me she is pissed, we look both ways and cross the street walking up the stairs by the gym. We walk around to the front of the gym where there is a man in a custodian uniform using a pressure washer to rinse away the blood I left on the parking lot. We walk across the parking lot and up to her car she unlocks it with her key and we get inside closing the doors. She snatches up her pack of Marlboro reds. She pulls out one and puts it in her mouth lighting it up with a red lighter. She rolls the window down using the handle crank. She puts the key in the ignition and starts up the car pulling out of the parking spot. She drives the ten minutes to our house pulling in the driveway infront of the garage door. She stops the car putting it in park as she turns it off. We get out closing the doors and walk up on the porch. Mom unlocks the door and we walk into the foyer. I close the door behind me and Mom said as she held out her hand " Give me your beeper and go to your room.. you're grounded". I said " Mom".. She said " Now Kimberly!" I pull it out and put it in her hand as I storm up the stairs.
